If you can, get a second opinion. If that's not an option and you're having serious knee stabililty problems, then it might indeed be a torn ACL. I agree with Twin-fin. MRI's are not always accurate, even the latest and greatest technology. I was diagnosed with a torn ACL recently (I was told this was probably cronic, meaning existing) but when the doc went into do cartlidge clean up, he took pics and confirmed I still have an ACL. He did further tests with a stability device and it checked out OK.
It's important to know how YOU feel, not what the MRI says. Do you have stability problems? If so and, your knee " buckles" at times, then the MRI could be accurate, if not, then you could still have an ACL. There's a big difference in recovery from ACL reconstruction vs a scope job and clean up. I've gone through this twice now, and I can tell you from experience.

Good luck Phil

Hey thanks again for everybody's well wishes and advice.

Got some good news today. The ortho surgeon checked my knee out and told me it felt stable enough that I could put off surgery for a bit (hopefully till end of the season) if I take it easy.

So I am going to put the twin-tip on lock down and just ride my surfboard and skim. Its probably about the best news I could hope for, I'm so happy to not miss out on a whole season!

I am getting another surgeon to look at in a couple weeks, but in the meantime I plan to sneak in a few seshs. See ya all out there!

phil,

that news rocks man!! Razz

man, somone a few pages back mentioned a "knee upgrade." the secret is in quadriceps strength. hit that roadbike, dude, kill your car. ride that sucker every chance you get, then ride it some more. finally, ride your bike.

you know, there are a lot of acl injuries out there with people connected to the that dont know they have an acl injury. word. such injuries may go unnoticed in people with well developed quads.

ride that bike man. good on ya.

Just got off a 50 min sesh on the cycle trainer. My road bike still has a Cycle Oregon '02 blue ring on the saddle stem... that was pretty much the last time I road the sucker... right before I discovered kiteboarding Twisted Evil

CrazyC - not sure the TT is a good idea, once I strap that thing on there is no holding back. Plenty to learn on the strapless front anyway. Besides I've been there done that... Wink

Hey Phil,

Thats great news man....Good to here you'll be able to ride this summer...
Hopefully I'll see you on the water this weekend....
Wink

Hey, by the way,
about my little knee Injury I told you about....., I think your're right man....
It's looking more like I have a Meniscus Injury...Just talked to a friend over the phone whose involved w/ physical therapy.....He agrees with me....He thinks I have a typical Meniscus Injury...
Once I get my Insurance stuff take'n care of this month, I plan to schedule a doctors/surgen visit next month to get a consultation/confirmation/MRI and a better idea of my situation...My sense tells me I might still have to go under the knife this fall...But it may not be a big deal....maybe just out for 2-3 weeks...
But in the mean time, I'm just gonna take it easy and mow the lawn...Strap on a brace and Baby that knee.....and if it starts to hurt, I'll just back off a bit until it feels better...

So Speaking of Knee Therapy....Whats the best exercise to do for the knees....
Seems like riding a Bike is a good choice....Any thoughts...?

That was a Roo 7 day... The REVs can do that too... maybe even better!!! Phil just needs another ultra-powered 7m day!

Hey no kite brand comparisons! Er okay maybe just this once...

That day had the best conditions I've ever ridden in for boosting... super flat water and really strong wind. That 7m roo was in the zone! Would have been interested to try the 7m Rev in the same conditions... who knows! The Roo's run a bit gruntier than the same size Rev so its a tough call if it would have been a 9m or a 7m Rev day for big boosts.

Unfortunately with the knee thing I guess I will have to wait awhile to really find out... Very Happy

Okay now I gotta lock this thread because there was a kite comparison, damn! Wink
