Knee design sucks. Surgeons should provide a 'knee upgrade' for board sport people to beef those suckers up and allow you to land HOT w/ out the worry . Heal well Phil, I'm sure we'll see you on the water soon. |

Yaaaay! Phil's gonna make a badass video! Hopefully the water will be warm by the time you're knee's better.
Got any idea what brand of cam you're thinking of? |

Not sure about brand, just want something quality... is there anything affordable doing slow-mo HD yet?
other option is to get a small sanyo waterproof cam like Colby had in SPI, that thing was pretty awesome and it'd be sweet to have it waterpoof |

THE best Knee Surgeon in Oregon. |
Seconded. Not sure if he's the best in OR, but he sure did me right. I saw him at Orthopedics Northwest in Tigard. Highly recommended by many... |

Off topic: I know we're probably not talking about ultra high-end HD cams (HVX - my fav. at the moment, XH, EX1, etc.) with a ton of manual control, so with that in mind, I like Sony the best. Canon makes awesome stuff, but no matter the cam (basic ZRs, older 3CCD GLs, and even the XH-A1), things just seem a bit washed to me. Maybe that's the reason I like Sonys? Obviously that's just my opinion of their raw footage, but it could be easily corrected.
I went with a relatively inexpensive Sony SR11 which has its pros and cons. Not the greatest manual control, though you don't have to use the touch screen for everything. True 1920x1080 resolution, 60gig hard drive, but in Sony's newest AVCHD format which uses ~3 times+ the processing power of HDV. Just didn't want to deal with miniDV tapes anymore as heads/tapes wear out over time. And it's nice not having to capture in 1:1, though archiving is more work.
In low light some of the Canons seem stronger with less noise and faster focus, so that's a definate plus. They also appear to have better manual control (for more filmy stuff) aswell as 24p. Check out stuff on Vimeo.com. A lot of guys load up raw footage that has been downconverted, but is still in HD. |

Sorry to hear about your knee Phil..... I am sure you will bounce back quickly. Another thing to consider is one of those knee braces like Ben from PacWave wears. _________________ KB4C!!!!!!!!!!!!

| That was Jeff's Sony SR7 and Sony SPK-HCC water housing (it allows you to turn on and off the camera, zoom, snap photos, and record via the A/V jack - no LANC on the SR series cams). Works pretty well and I've heard of guys using it down to 50ft, even though it's only rated to 17. Just got my housing the other day (newer SPK-HCD) and modified it to work with my Raynox wideangle. I post up a few pics later. |

| Bummer Phil. I had a minor MCL sprain about 3 months ago and am still trying to get it to 100%. I hope you rock your recovery. Make sure to get proper physical therapy whether you have the surgery or not. I never seem to get a doctor that recommends anything, but I hear that can help a lot. See you on the water soon! |
