Cape Blanco is one of the windiest places on earth. Remember that if its not windy, go to the other side of the cape.

"but keep promoting its hard to get the wind here" Cool

The camping trip was a huge success. We got sun and wind everyday we were there and only the first day was light.

Our group was 12 people strong at one point and people came and left and it was pretty quiet. During the slow evenings Geno and I kept the party going and woke up hung over every morning. Nothing a little bit of cold water can't cure.

Wednesday was a really smooth day, also happened to be my birthday. Figured the best gift I could give myself is landing a raley to blind. No dice, tried about 25 times and I still can't do it, I get really close... Such is life, 28 is a good age and 10 years ago I would have never imagined myself where I am today. I have a rad life and that's better than landing a trick.

Thursday was probably the smoothest day of them all, and you can see pictures of that day earlier in this topic.

We got two downwinders at Whiskey Run on Friday and could have just kept going for at least three more but we wanted to get back to the flat water at Floras. This turned out to be a mistake cause it was one of the more gusty days. (How many times has "Don't leave wind for wind!" applied to me and I've not listened.) Waves at Whiskey Run were a little confused and I chicken-jibed more than rode them, but Gene was there on a directional showing me how its was done. He rode that directional out toeside just so he'd be ready to slash at a moments notice. He dropped into an overhead wave and he got at least one turn in after he dropped in. A big set of well-formed waves came in at one point, well overhead high, and Gene was on that like a fly on shit. It was really good to see him ride the waves because he's been talking about waves since we met in March. Even Katie got in a few turns on some smaller waves once she got the timing right. It was her first time in a REAL ocean cause the gulf coast in Texas doesn't count.

We also got a first hand peak at Dakine's new Pyro harness. It was also on display at the Surf Expo. Looks to be a really nice harness with integrated sliding handle pass rope/handle on the back. I'll be riding that harness next season.

This was my second late summer trip to Floras, and I'm looking forward to years to come and making this an annual event. Hopefully we can get enough people to go and actually take over the campground. Just about everyone that was at floras learned something new, that's what I love most about that place. Katie learned to ride toeside, Woodpig's water starts got way more consistent, Gene was getting really close with his handle passes and threw a monster kite loop, I got a few new tricks down, and a couple local beginners who were just doing board starts on Tuesday were riding toeside by Thursday. It's like kiting up above Wells Island only having an audience to cheer you on, people to keep your head above water if you knock yourself out going for it, plenty of room downwind and no hidden stumps.

Josh and Reed were out everyday after school and they were showing us how it’s done. Riding around Josh and Reed makes you want to try new shit because they always have huge smiles on their faces, throw the hugest variety of tricks, never a rerun, and know how to show off for a crowd. Not to mention they're so good at riding that knee breaker shit on the other side of the dune.

I want to thank all the friends that came out, and for those who didn't... Come out next year.

Hi

Someone had asked about pics of Reed and Josh. Leave it to Mom to oblige. Here's a link to latest kite vid on YouTube I did for fun of Reed on the lake a few weeks ago-Josh wasn't out. (Josh got his new Lunacy board yesterday and said now he HAS to get better...).

Sorry for the cheesy music, but couldn't resist:

Sorry dude, it's a little hard to juggle wanting to kite with wanting to take pix. I wanted to shoot some pix but it was just to good to waste time doing that. I feel bad for photographers who make a living shooting pix. They always have to spend the best days watching.
