I was hoping to get there . but at 8 am I was taken to the E.R. apparently I have a kidney stone to pass first.... ouch........ never felt pain like that before. the nurse told me its more painful that childbirth... I think she was trying to make me stop crying in pain naked in the corner of some tainted ER room.
i was bending the rails of the bed from pain. have fun .....next time I will meet you there.
look for the opening beyond the lake in the picture, I need to find the access roads to check it out. Its bigger than the lower diamond lake side pummice fields. the huge pumice field is one of the small openings between the huge snowfield and the rim, I think.
sol are you a soild rider w/o kite?? I ask because the crater fall back is poaching bailey.
we have sleds but finding people with good skill(not waiting for,ect.ect.) with avy skills and peep, probs anfd shovels ect is hard to find.
when I was google earth scouting around diamond peak I found this
YEAR: 1956
SEASON: Summer
MONTH: July
STATE: Oregon
COUNTY: Douglas County
LOCATION DETAILS: It was near a logging camp (we dont know if it is still there or not)
There were a few cabins around that the loggers stayed in.
It was at Lemolo Lake, north of Diamond Lake.
NEAREST TOWN: Lake Lemolo
NEAREST ROAD: Cascades Highway # 60
OBSERVED: When my dad was about 8 years old, his family moved to Douglas County in Oregon, located in the Cascade Mountains, because his dad was a logger. They lived there only through the summer season.
They had two lakes near them. Diamond Lake and Lemolo Lake.
He said he had a half day at school, so he headed home at about 1pm. He took a trail that goes around Lemolo Lake (that he wasn't allowed to take because it was right next to the logger camp).
He headed down that trail in the afternoon of a clear, sunny summer day and stopped at the bottom of the trail when he saw something crouched down drinking from the lake [see note below]. It was only about 150 to 200 feet away from him on the same side of the lake. As soon as he had seen it the creature stood up as straight as a man and stared straight at him. The minute my dad realized it wasn't a man or a bear he ran right back up that trail.
He said it had dark fur all over and it was pretty large...but then again he was very small!
When I asked him about this story today to get the details, he said that during the 3 or 4 months they lived there that year he heard loud screeching, howling noises once in awhile that he didn't recognize to be any animal he had ever heard.
ALSO NOTICED: None
OTHER WITNESSES: No, he was walking by himself.
OTHER STORIES: Yes...
My uncle's friend and his girlfriend were riding horses in those same mountains (the Cascades) and they came upon a hairy brown creature standing by a tree; the horses started to get a little scared so they backed up, when they did that they saw a women sasquatch nursing a baby while sitting on a rock...the horses freaked as she stood up, and everyone left the site.
They said that she had breasts, cradling the young while feeding it, the other one seemed to be keeping watch; they were on a horse trail.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: 1 PM on a summer day in July.
Very clear outside, warm, no fog or rain.
ENVIRONMENT: He said there were trees and bushes, but because it was so clear and warm out and the creature was next to the water he saw the whole thing, no mistakes.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Dr. Wolf H. Fahrenbach:
I talked to the original witness and thereby converted the report from a second-hand to a Class A report. The witness described the sasquatch as having been in excess of 6 1/2', the height of his father. It was brown to tan colored, not the color of the black bears common to the area. The witness said the animal had a massive build and a flat face. It was hunkering in berry bushes on the side of a creek, possibly Poole Creek.
At the time of the sighting, the witness did not talk about it for fear of the consequences of being in an area "forbidden" to him.
As a curious aside, 3 1/2 miles to the west of this location is the "Dread and Terror Ridge."

i like to ride pretty fast, and i have fairly good knowledge about avy's. But i dont own a sled, just some CC ski's and a gurney.
bailey is Epic, 5 bowls of untouched pow....lots of room up there for kites
i'll post the pics,
el sol
its gonna be NW 10-15mph, i brought the 20.5m just in case...i need a tent
edit: look at Mt.Scott in that pic....i thought the pumice desert is more to the north?....that shot looks like it was taken over the top of the pumice desert.....am i looking at a cloud?

| I was just going to ask if they were going to put you in an ultrasonic bath, have to do "surgery", or if it'd pass on its own.

I got a week to pass it if not under the knife or ultrasonic destruction. Two big shots of morphine and I was still crying then they gave me something to knock me out but it never quite did.
3mm is small enough to pass I guess. they said too much caffine and chocolate and you can grow some stones to. pissing in some modified coffee filter to pan for stone so I know when to stop gooblin oxycods.
sol ,that is not the pumice desert that shot I assume is looking east. the desert is north side just left of the picture i think . so there is some other huge area out there we haven't found yet.
I have been on bailey lots its pretty small up above tree line , a couple kites some slednecks and the occasional snow cat would make for some interesting vibes.
the owners of the cat op really give the stink eye to anyone who doesn't pay.
as soon as theres coverage I am there.

To get to the Pumice desert, You will need XC ski's or a snowshoes. It is a 2 mile hike in, 4 miles round trip. I dont know if snowmobiles are allowed in the park, It may need up to 36" inches of snow first?. And they must stay on the trail at all times.(dont make the locals mad)
Check out Daimond lake. It is very close to the pumice desert, freezes over and is quite large. and has a pizza shack open all winter long! (snowmobile trail access only)accomadations also available at the daimond lake lodge.

Would anyone be interested in doing a group avalanche certification? The Oregon Mountaineers aren't holding classes this year but said they might do one offs for a group of 4 or more.
Geno and I are into getting a few sleds next year, but this year we're going to get our avie certs, and do some mountaineering training so we're ready for some back country next year.

Hmm I am not sure bout every year but for the last couple years I have stayed at the lodge at diamond lake a few times and I don't think its safe to be out playing on the ice... to each thier own...
I know I have seen some tracks in the snow down to slush.. don't think the slednecks even dare to ride it.

Here's a great way to spend the day at Diamond Lake/Mt Bailey.....
Get some wicked fresh pow-pow for $350. I haven't done it-- but I've seen their marketing video--it's mouth watering...
