Thumb's Up Thumb's Up Thumb's Up

That spot looks stellar - Sol-Flyer. Would be a fun long weekend for Ptown dwellers. Any one try snowkiting Clear Lake off 26 - thats gotta freeze over (you go first).

here's a link to the lodge at Diamond Lake http://www.diamondlake.net/

I will try to let folks know when I will be up there (have cabin and sleds) I think Sol-Flyer is planning something for early next year and will try to assist.

I can get my hands on some snowshoes pretty easily, is a snowshoe hike pretty doable? The 2 mile hike doesn't seem much longer than the hike at rooster to the eastern end of the beach, Plus I imagine you could pile your kites and other gear on your snowboard and pull it behind you.
What forecast did you guys use?

you can use snowshoes, but XC ski's will be faster (depending how deep the snow is)....I towed a kiddie sled behind me loaded with kites/board/lunch/extra gear i didnt need, Probably wieghed about 60 pnds. Mad, Its a "drag" to pull that much wieght, so now i plan on using a good hiking backpack.

here is a link to the weather sites i like to use: http://southernoregonkiteaddicts.com/S.O.K.A.%20Weather.htm

Snowshoein' behind the guy with the sixty pound sled shouldn't be to hard of pace there should be a good trail in to Laughing . snowshoes slough.

extra stuff is what you survive on when the shizzle hit the fizzle.

The thing with the National Park and Wilderness is that
When and if they catch on the ruling will probably be that it will be in the same class as hang gliders and they are outlawed. Some ranger districts look at it as this now.(Steens)don't ask don't ask, Bend allowed us on Broken Top a couple years ago.

The dude who runs the lodge/cat ski/gas station/resturant is not a real freindly guy unles you are paying him. When he aprroached us out in the puimice field when Kiting ,the first thing out of his mouth was that we are not supposed to be doing that in a Nat.park,,it kinda went downhill after that.
He pays for all the grooming as a donation to O.D.O.T. including up to Bailey,, so poaching HIS mtn. will piss him off even more.Keep to the runs he has used and perhaps this will continue to be a fun place to be.

Something to keep in mind if you are planning much time at this location.

We are as nice as we can be to him and buy his shit as well.

I tried to explain that we are not a commercial operation (which he has exclusive rights to) we are making his location seem a lot more fun .

He waddled off to his Yamaha sno beast and blasted off into the distance
