True enough, Mark was yelling starboard, but I am pretty sure they never actually gave way.
They were racing, and we were racing, so it was rather interesting. Especially because we were cutting directly across there start on a starboard tack. |

the OP is angry that someone who is heading the opposite direction of him is trying to get upwind of him. Since the OP has right of way, he shouldn't have to do anything differnt, and the other guy should avoid him. the other sailor is disregarding the rules and going upwind , forcing the original poster downwind and into a situation where the guy with right of way has to do something to avoid the asshole. and to add insult to injury, the guy pinching him doesn't fly his kite high so that the OP, who now has to fly his kite low, doesn't even have room to sine his kite to generate enough power to coninue planing, or now has to lose ground downwind in order to continue planing and not sink. and THEN gets a dirty look as payment.
kind of like making out with a dude's sister and mom and then stealing his car. |

This one has to be my favorite.
Kook is a term, most often used by aggro locals, to describe any surfers that:
- don't live in the shithole little coastal towns
- don't work construction and/or drive old, beat-up trucks
- pretend like they can surf when, in reality, they suck-ass
- don't follow the rules of the lineup
- show up in the lot with a frappachino, excited about 2-footers

The sandbar is famous because of the winds. When people hear that I kiteboad they always ask if I kiteboard near hood river. This is a common question - I live in PDX and these other people who live in PDX who have never touched a kite have heard of the winds at the spit. So people who want to get started naturally go where they know there is a lively kiteboarding community.
When I got started in Kiteboarding I didn't know a single soul who kiteboarded - I didn't know jack about kiteboarding - I didn't know there were so many spots in oregon - but I did know there was kiteboarding at the spit due to my trips through hood river - so naturally thats where I started and took lessons. |

if anything this site does a good job of showing the variety of kiting spots to be found in the NW so we can spread out and has a number of good threads on safety and gear. When googling kiting you are hopeful people find these threads and learn something of real use then much of the other baseless info if they are going to learn to kite anyways.
Also, I may have gotten the wind wrong 50% of the time out on my first year and now am in the 95%+ range for not being skunked with help from this website, ikitesurf.com, and texting friends....much time and gas better spent! |
