WTF has happened to courtesy and the knowledge of right of way?
Do dying winds negate all of this? I want to stay up wind when winds are dying as much as the next guy, but not at the expense of common decency.... Fucking raise your kite if you are going to pinch me upwind when i have the right of way. Stop looking at me like I'm the asshole when i dont feel like giving up ground when you are pinching and I clearly have the right of way.

Oh and here's another thought FUCKING LOOK BEFORE YOU TURN!!!!!

We all screw up every now and again, but it seems to me there is more this crap these days?

This also works in reverse. For example, if you are right on someones tail and you are headed in a direction that forces you to turn around, a little anticipation would be nice! Wink

No doubt J, if I am 30 yds from Washington, the person behind me should assume I will be making a turn...

I guess what I am wondering is if those being taught by schools and friends are being told about right of way, raising kites, not following too closely and looking before you jibe etc....

Seems like not?

I heard some people's solution with the "upwind chicken game" is to just riding until you wrap kites with the person... Twisted Evil

man, i seem to always have a different take on things, since that last round of electroshock therapy. . .

the problem with rudeness is that when it is answered with more rudeness, well, you have become the thing that you detest.

a problem, how to answer an asshole?

i just give way downwind, stay courteous and smile.

and then pay some guy named guido to break his legs.

Instead of getting all poopy pants about it (which can lead to an irritating rash that will spoil your day)--- Why not get upwind of the person and then tom-o-hawk the living shit out of them? You can make a game out if it, see how close you can get to them with your kite without wrapping their lines.

Someone needs to make an online game of this...like "whack a mole!" What a great way to pass the time while not out riding!

Dude: I just pinched out something last night something awful; with last night's rain, you better give it proper right-of-way if you go kiting out at SI tonight.

Rule 12 On the Same Tack, Not Overlapped: When boats are on the same tack and not overlapped, a boat clear astern shall keep clear of a boat clear ahead.

Translated: if your following someone, and not downwind of them, you must give way to them.

Rule 16.1 Changing Course: When a right-of-way boat changes course, she shall give the other boat room to keep clear.

Translated: give people room when you turn even if you have right of way

I'm a noob and am taking classes in HR this month. I had questions about right of way during my first day. My instructor was disturbingly casual about this. He summed it up as follows.

1. Riders about to land have right of way over riders about to launch.
2. Riders downwind have right of way over riders upwind (presumably because downwinders can't see you).
3. Riders on the starboard tack have right of way over riders on the port tack.
That was it.
Is my instructor setting me up to get spanked or branded as a kook?
