This makes me want to PROJECTILE VOMIT!
Using an unrelated event as fear, uncertainty, and doubt to further her agenda and make windsurfers afraid of us. This is like what the skateboard magazines did to roller-bladers for years.

Looks like were a bunch of dumb people with no brains at all.
I guess that's why I don't windsurf anymore, I must be stupid. Because windsurfers are the only smart people.
Take it to um tricksters, If they have a pole in their hand (fishing pole) give some space, otherwise, have at it. Huck it! |

No shit, I can't believe this. I always thought it was us, the kiters, making fun of windsurfers that caused the rift between the two sports. Now I know the truth. |

The kite community is way different then the WS.
Kiters are friendly helping people watching everyones back, not just their friends. They share technique info and want to see everyone tear it up.
Wish I got stupid sooner |

What are you doing looking at that site - are you going to defect - we will stop you Forrest.
Actually didn't see what the big deal is:
This guy had nice things to say:
Kiters (was Re: Big Sunday)
I was on my 4.7 at the Hatch on Monday which usually means that there
will be a fair amount of kiters. While there is still a space issue,
I am observing that kiters are being much more considerate of space
and timing of their jumps. The kiters who were out there on Monday
had the skills to be there, and for the first time, I almost felt
comfortable with them around.
- We did run into and agro windsurfing guy at Manzo last week - buzzed us a couple times - considering there were 4 kites and 2 poles for the whole place it was pretty laughable. |

I am with you Gman. I think that 98% of both sportsters are cool 98% of the time. We got grouches on both "sides." Nothing like a smile, or a shaka to disarm bad vibes.

This reminds me of the snowboarder/skier wars. In time it will get better I bet. |

the author had lots of good things to say about the CGKA
i think she just wants a more open launch at rufus like they have at the event site, so kiters aren't down front and center throwing kiteloops et all where people are trying to launch their windsurfing rigs. can't really say that is unreasonable request because we've had to accomodate that in HR.
I do agree however that kiters are more friendly; when have you ever had a WS wave hello to you as you're passing by? i wave high to windsurfers all the time, especially after giving them the upwind port tack and i'm on my starboard tack. |

At rufus, just east of the rock pile is trick city. People are not doing tricks along the whole launch area, there is just one spot, that I saw.
You do not need to launch east of the rock pile with your WS gear, that is being selfish, No tricks I must launch here.
What I read was intolerance to another windsport at their beach, inability to share, et al. The insinuation was the CGKA was promoting safety, not the kiting community, the CGKA is a subset of kiters not the whole.
And by the way, this forum is where things happen, the CGKA website hasn't been updated since last year. Not one board meeting minutes from this year is published. and hasn't this been a year that news should be posted.
from the website, "No news is good news" WTF is that about.n Lets see, news from Memorial Day, dumb kiter hits log pile, where the hell is that?
Is the CGKA afraid to let the other kiters know there position, from this forum, it seems like they caved in and kissed ...
Don't forget, avoidance of an accident is EVERYONES responsibility, there is no true right of way, what tack your on is secondary, the most manuverable vehicle has to yield, that is maritime law. That is why the barges have right of way over a sailboat!
That means that newbies and out of control beginners are actually in the right away and need to be avoided by the skilled water person. And that is a kiter or WS.
Rant over, sorry I have an opinion and am tweaked that there is always blame on the kiter.
It's a two way street out there. |

actually, i have posted meeting summary / minutes of the one meeting we had this year but, WTF, somebody changed the link and mislabeled it may 6th of '06. I'm gonna have to have a talk w/ redbeard
here is the link http://www.cgka.net/page-5-4.htm
guess i should post about the success of the sandbar cleanup, after all that was pretty good news. suppose i should post about the damned accident on memorial day weekend as well, and put an emphasis on safety.
i think also, i might have to put up a note about bringing dog poo bags, because i'm sick of all the dog sh** laying around our kite beach. |

the windsurfer who wrote this conveniently forgot to mention all the windsurfers who are ripping it up within the 600 foot square. Part of the rules were under 5mph for them in that area as well. |

What about having people actually put their dogs on leashes while they are riding. It sucks when you are trying to come into the beach and are attacked by a pack of loose dog and owners are no where to be found. |

oddly enough, i've never encountered either of these problems. Frankly i think the kiter dogs are more educated that non-kiters (about kites at least). I dont know how many times i've had to yell at kids in the parking lot gravel to get out of the way when i'm trying to land my kite up there, and countless other times when i've had my lines layed out just before launching from the parking lot and i've had to tell people to not step on my lines when they are laying on top of gravel.
I actually like having the dogs run loose at the kite beach, and i dont even own a dog, but am a very dog friendly person. The only problem i have with dogs are if they walk on my kite, and if that happens then the dog should be put in the car as punishment or if the owner deliberately does not pick up the dog poo, then i have a problem w/ the owner. |

I like dogs too, that's why I don't like running into them when they jump out in front of my board to chase me. Honestly I do everything I can do avoid them but I have clobbered a couple.
The biting at our legs was cute when we were still in fullsuits but now in a shorty I don't think I want teeth in my leg.
There was also the dogs who were swimming 100+ feet offshore and getting caught in the current, I tried to get them to chase me back to shore before they drown.
We talked to one of the owners of some of the wild dogs at the spit this weekend (a kiter.) He was really cool and agreed next time a leash would probably be the best option. |
