Thu Jul 17, 08 6:02 am Back pain and Streching for Kiteboarding!! |

I just picked up a copy of the new IKO book on Stretching. As I have had some issues with my lower back this seemed like really good reading. I bought it at New Wind for $8 and it's short but packed with good information on stretching.
My lower back tends to hurt from years of basketball, tennis, swimming, and other sports, but kiting has placed some strain on the twisting of my lower back.
My core is solid and I do sit ups and lift weights regularly, but from time to time I have this recurring low level pain in my lower back. I have managed to narrow it down to several possible things, but the here are the ones I have recently figured out:
1. Waist harness too tight: fix= loosen the the main belt to allow harness to move 15 to 25 deg from belly button center when going toe side(I'm regular and love starboard toesied)
2. Adjust foot straps regularly to get knee's in line with quads: This is straight out of the IKO book and really worked fast! I went out yesterday and this adjustment had an immediate impact on my body comfort when jumping.
3. Use good NSI or other cushy padding on twin tip for big air jumps. I was landing really flat and not bending my knee's
4. Warm up with about 2 to 3 min. of aerobic. I run out to my kite and back to my lines and out to the spot attempting to get heart rate up. Then I stretch. _________________ Hey, I'm being hahahahahrassed! |
