Came to to the gorge to warm up.
We have two waverunners and the kids wanna ride.

Don't have their boaters license yet.

1. can we drop in on the Washington side and avoid the state cop hassles?
2. If so, where is the nearest drop in on the WA side from Hood?
3. If not, is there anywhere you would recommend to drop in on the Oregon side where we may get (at least a) half a day in without hassles?

Big thanks....

Hey Scott,

WA has the same requirements as OR now for a boaters card. You can go here for an online test: http://www.boat-ed.com/wa/index.htm and here for more info: http://www.parks.wa.gov/boating/boatsafefaq.asp.

All that said, Stevenson has a free launch, is used by a lot of of waverunners, and I've never seen the Sheriff down there. Wink And there's a nice grassy kite launch right around the corner from the boat launch.

Tony

In WA anyone under 20 years of age in 2008 must have their Washington Boater Education Card

http://www.boat-ed.com/wa/course/p4-3_whomayoperate.htm

In OR anyone under 70 years of age in 2008 must have their Oregon Boater Education Card

http://www.boat-ed.com/or/course/p4-3_whomayoperate.htm

Both the links talk about age restrictions etc for operating > 10hp motors

The test is pretty easy and it doesn't take that long. I would just take it online and print the cert at the end keep it with you.

There is a dock in HR that's free and in Biegen, WA thats free and pretty close to HR.

A side note the cop boat was out patroling all last weekend in HR

Have fun should be a good weekend for the ski time

75 questions and so far the test takes 2 minutes per question.

I found if you take the practice exam several times and "print out" the answers each time, will give you about 90%+ of the questions asked in the test..at least when I took it. They may re-word the question..but still same answers

When I took it I had 1 window with the study material and the other with the test and toggled back and forth Wink I also have taken the course when I was 10, just lost the card over the years.

I found this one was pretty reasonable to learn from. The questions can be ridiculously obscure Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Mad
but I think the bar to pass is pretty low,

Maybe they have changed it since I took it a few years ago. It was pretty easy cause at the bottom it had a link right to where the answers where found online. I would just use control + f and type in key words.

Red Right Return

I'm sending over the examiner with his sextant to all you cheaters Laughing

The boating was insane in Texas, watched in horror as another skiboat narrowly missed our down rider - dude wasn't even looking forward driving the boat.
