OK, here's an idea; Let's have a photo, and or video contest for amatures only. You have to be a kook taking pics on a 8 mega pix or less camera. The subject must be kiting.

Check out my first serious entry. I like the clouds and the sand. I think it's great.

Who's in? Very Happy Very Happy

Let's do the rules and the judging by democratic selection: everyone gets vote.

First set of test rules are:
1. Subject must be kiteboarding.
2. You must disclose your camera type and it can't be more than 8 mp
3. You can take pics of anything related to kiteboarding places, action, but it must include a description.
4. You can enter up to 3 photos.
5. In a short time period you need to pick the best shot to submit. We will probably end up having categories but for now we will just go with it.
6. The best pic as judged by the forum, and the process that develops, will be the winner.
7. I'll try to come up with some prizes and or shwagle.

Go grab your cams and have at it!

This is much better than a survey. Wink

Nwkite party every year (usually Dec) we do a photo contest.... prizes for pro's and amature's... but if you want to set one up go for it or just save your photos and enter the nwkite one at the end of the year.

PSkite also does a photo contest at the end of the year too you could enter that one to.

Isn't that what the BOTG photo contest is?

Bulae, I don't know what your photography background is, but you may need to read this:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/08/technology/08pogue.html
Pretty interesting stuff about megapixels.
You may need to re-evaluate your amateur criteria.

damn
I need to do some shooting
I always get too stoked and stay on the water

I think we should have a tomohawk competition at the sand bar. We'll set up a scarecrow in the shallow water right in the middle of the kiddie pool. Contestants will have to wear a seat harness, life jacket, board leash, helmet, and carry two hook knives and then try to tomohawk the scarecrow.

Closest wins although points will be given for ape stance, rigging a kite 3 sizes to large, staying in the kiddie pool long after the tomohawk, getting in the way of the next person try to tomohawk, and getting drug across the sand.

Winner of the competition will receive a 2003 fuel, a pickle fork board and Bule99's custom made break away board leash.

We're definitely going to add a "Best Kook" category to the photo contest this year, not sure if that's what you had in mind but just thought I'd mention.

BTW, I am a heavy contender for best kook on my skimboard. Very Happy

PostSun Jun 22, 08 7:22 pm    OK, so you take a picture and we judge it on line. Reply with quote

Let me explain what I was trying to propose....again.

1. You are not a pro photographer
2. You are a kook photographer
3. You take a pic and you post it
4. The forum judges it..I will help with criteria as it gets going
5. Your camera must be a 8 mega pix or less
6. Your subject must be a kiteboarder
7. It can be on the water, or in it

We can wait to have a contest, or we can start taking pictures and post them. It would actually be kind of cool to see what people are doing and where.

It doesn't matter if you are here or wherever, but you will be on the honor system. If you are a pro it will show.

So let's do this thing.

WTFMF

Very Happy

My Cam is a Samsung S630 6.0mp
This shot is of the spit on Monday am. It was blowing steady 14to 20ish and better at the bridge. Very odd to see it so open and in it's natural state.

What do you think? Any suggestions about composition etc. would be great. [/img]

Monkey boy,
I'm very concerned about your interest in violent water sports. You appear to have some issues around being safe. I'm wondering if you are compensating for some other areas in your life that you feel are not up to par? Ya know what I mean?

You seem to attack each of my posts, including the classifieds, with random and sometimes off subject comments.

Are you frustrated that you live so far from the good winds? Is your job causing you pain? I'm here to help you figure out a way that you can post all by yourself without tagging my shit up with your pointless and violent banter.

Very Happy

Momma gonna love you nice and _________________

Hey bulae,
I'm not too much of a photographer, but it may help your shots to define your subject.
When you're taking a picture, think about what your subject will be and then compose the shot based on that.
I found this advice especially helpful for landscapes.
For action and other stuff, its not quite as important because then the subject is usually pretty obvious.

good advice stringer. not sure why bulae wants a contest.
just share the stoke by posting an image. if you shoot enough, you may eventually progress.
hell it happended to me. now my friends all get excited when I bring the camera out.
I'm not a big fan of contests, but do like to be recognized for something if I have some pride in my efforts.
I will say the nwkite photo contest is a great showcase of the NW riders and gives photographers of all levels an opportunity to display their talents.
hell phil put me in pro category last year. While I felt honored, come on I'm still a kook with the lens.
I say screw the contest and just share the stoke because you want to.
Everyone would most likely rather see you progress at shooting riders on the water rather than talk about your toes.

OK, you made me cry- are you happy?

PS if your going to doctor your photos up, try to take it easy on the sharpen and color saturation functions. It's always nice to have the color of your photos reflect the actual conditions.

You can also try to keep your subjects out of the very center of the frame...It makes for a very boring photo because eyes won't move across the photo they jsut fixate on the center and all other features are generally ignored.

Look at these two photos I took a couple years ago. see how your eye focuses or moves around the photo? There is not one central subject, there is a general flow from one side top the other. More flow in the 2nd picture but in the first you notive the river, then you focus on the log, then back to the river, etc. etc. etc.

phil, when are you going to implement the "ignore poster" feature on this forum?
