What do you think?
If someone needs to land a kite and they are patting their head you should:
a. Act like you don't see them and continue setting up your kite.
b. Look around to see if you are the only one available then grab it.
c. Just wait for somebody else because your too busy.
d. Grab the kite.
Ok, I know that it's the kite pilots responsibility to be able to deal with any situation, but it is polite to help people in need. I have no problem helping people land and launch. There are times when I really don't want to but I do it anyways. I figure it's good to help as I may need it at some point in the future. Treat others the way you would like to be treated!
Where is everybody at with this issue? Do you stop what you are doing to help someone bring the kite in or out? _________________ Hey, I'm being hahahahahrassed! |

I always do.
With the high water there has been some times when I didn't want to. I kind of feel like people who are landing should come in land about 40 yards and dump their kites. Then the people who are trying to get out have more room. |

I was at the sandspit 2 weeks ago with a couple small plane pilots. They wondered why nobody ever thought of a take-off and landing protocol like they apparently have at fly-ins. 15-20 minutes of departures, then 15-20 minutes of arrivals, repeat.
Seemed like we got everyone out smoothly at KB4C last Summer
Of course it would require organization. _________________ CGKA Member

That probably works with planes because pilots aren't worried that the wind might die in 15-20 minutes |

i've had my fair share of bag karma come an bite me in the arse. and conversely i've had plenty of good karma blow me kisses...
...so if someone needs a land (or a launch) i give it to them. that's what makes up the brother hood. |

I'm always happy to launch and land people and usually make a point to launch at least one other person (besides my wife!) before I go out. The only time I ask for a little patience is when I'm in the middle of running my lines or right when I'm connecting up to the kite. Unless someone's in trouble I ask them to wait a minute while I finish that step.
Since we all talk about safety on here and the safe thing to do is to have someone launch and land your kite do it that way. Yes, we should all know how to self land and self launch but if help is available do it the safer way.
I've had more people pretend not to see me coming in to land at the Spit than anywhere else I've been though. What's up with that? Is it really such an imposition to catch someone's kite? Maybe I need to land it on someone's head next time to really get their attention.

Its always interesting to interprete the landers body language if you don't know them.
If they don't rub thier head without patting thier belly whoe knows
it is always more fun to watch someone self land a kite in strong wind..
if they want to be landed they will give the universal sign .... and come to you if they want you to catch it..
I love how some get out of the water and start patting thier head and no one is with in 200 yards of them....
self landing and launching is always the deal at our launch so you don't slow down your peers from getting out.
of course if asked a service is offered for both as well.
in populated areas there are always plenty of ops for peeps to help.
its easier on the kites to be handled.
I don't trust most people to launch me from behind jetties. |
