| It's at the extreme west end of Marine drive, and looks like it would be good on a SW. Just curious. Anyone thinking of getting inthe water locally in pdx today? Was the airport good yesterday?

define good?
Gusty, punchie wind with lots of holes. Ripping current with lots of downstream obstacles like marinas, wing walls, and piers?
Yes, the airport was awesome yesterday!!

I have on a strong easterly..and would not recommend it. But you can. There is just enough beach in the summer, right now I bet there would be next to none and you would have to drift launch. Lots of tall trees along the shoreline
It would be horrible on a SW as the wind would be coming over the west hills and tunneling down over the industrial area.
Plus a ton of boat traffic and fisherman both from Willamette and Columbia all just hang out there.

Yes.
I've kited there twice.
I've only tried the SSW wind. I had fun out in the Willamette, but the trees swirl the wind around, close to shore.
And yes, the commercial river traffic makes a kiter very disgruntled.
Someday I'd like to try a WNW day on the NW side of Kelly. It would have to be steady enough to remove any worries of the current dragging me into the silt dam (pilings)
I don't feel very safe, leaving my vehicle so far away and tucked in the trees though. Especially after what happened to our friend, Dunes, at SI
