|
|
| On the 2007 Best Bar, you leash to a ring below the bar that is attached to a line that goes up around a ring below the center lines and comes back down to the chicken loop. Once you blow out of the chicken loop and the chicken loop pulls the bar all the way up to the stopper, what have you gained at all??? Seems to me that this does not change anything with the dynamics of the kite or the pull on the rider. All it does is put you further away from your bar, which is now jammed up against the stopper. Am I missing something? |

In doing this, it will actually extend the line to completely depower if you fire the quick release or drop the handle while unhooked. Much better than clipping to the OSR handles. Also makes spinning the handle easier. |

Leashing to the bottom ring actually works pretty well. You don't get 100% depower and it's not the same as flagging to a single line but the kite generally shuts down pretty well and usually comes out of the sky and rests on one wing tip until you get things sorted out and the bar reeled back in.
One other thing it does is to override the stopper ball and push it all the way up so it's better than doing the suicide leash to the chicken loop routine. Yes, the bar is jammed against the depower buckle and it can be a pain to get it back down. For '08 Best added a small ball/spacer between the sliding stopper and the depower buckle. This keeps the stopper from getting jammed at the top.
Better for spinning and unspinning the bar as well. I don't have any worries now doing unhooked stuff and having to let go of the bar when things go wrong. Very easy to regroup and go again.

SpaceRacer,
You are basically correct and I talked to Best and they confirmed it. Leashing directly to the CL (preferrably just above the CL, around both lines) gives you the exact same amount of depower, plus you stay closer to the CL and the lines don't get fucked up.
The one benefit of using the special "double depower" ring that they recommend is just as tonyb mentioned: it will override the stopper ball if in use. But "double depower" is a poor name for it because it doesn't give you more depower unless you are using the stopper. |
