killing time at work and came across some cool slider plans. Sweat thing is that its a floating design.

I know I asked this before, but would anyone kick down cash for a sauvie slider?

Damn, that thing would be sweet. You could make it shorter and longer for more fun! I'd be willing to contribute, we could try and do it under the Slider Project, LLC for a little protection plus maybe we could get Gorge Performance to pay a little to brand it.

Yeah, I am going to need an LLC in order to get a temporary structure permit from the Department of State Lands. It would be nice to not have to register it under existing business as I do have some assets.

We'll see what the ODFW Sauvie manager has to say tomorrow. Then I can worry about building it. Cross your fingers.

Stevenson seems so politcal, as soon as you put it out there, someone would be bitching about it. I just have a hankering to build one. Not sure what permits you would need, if any to put it at Stevenson. I guess maybe an HPA from WDFW.

Would like to help out.
Thinking a bit more portable and smaller than the design posted. Blake and I were checking out floatable objects(windsurfers) at the shop. Sauvies is a Wildlife reserve and I doubt the Coast Guard wants freighters testing their rail riding potential on what was to be a permanent structure. So I believe it would have to be taken in and out. Maybe a couple 8 to 12 footers that would fit in my pick up.
I was also pricing out a roll of bungee, that is just to cool of a launch system.

thats a good design, looks like there should be a plywood skin on it... The baby-dock looks like a great place to start sliding...

I would like to see a freighter get 10 feet from shore. Its up to ODFW as they lease the land in front of where it would go. From what I have read, sliders less than 15 feet long aren't even worth it.

We'll see what odfw says tomorrow.

I was suggesting that the Coast Gaurd would figure that the slider might not stay put and then wash away to never never land. Just the way I see them seeing it.

20 feet would be fun, but 30 feet is more do able. You can build it so it bolts together.

Well, there will be no slider at Sauvie.

I spoke with the manager, who I used to volunteer under years ago. And he said that the department is tasked with managing the land for fish and wildlife usage and recreation uses that center around fish and wlildlife. As such, he said "I can't see how a slider would be beneficial to wildlife". I told him birds could land on it. We both laughed.

One thing that IS interesting is this.

Kiteboarding is going to be addressed in their upcoming management plan. It seems that kiteboarders can cause geese to change behavior patterns. I asked if I should be concerned about kiteboarders losing beach usage privileges and he said that the geese issue was not that big of a deal.

HOWEVER, he said that there have been complaints by fisherman and they take those complaints very seriously. Fishing is in line with what they are mandated to manage the area for and if there is some other recreation activity that was disrupting that then....not so good.

So people, we can make fun of fisherman and what not, but lets be as courteous as possible when they are out using the beach as well.

Cheers.
Brian.

Oh yeah... He said all we would need to do to have a clean up is give him a call a week or so before hand and he'll have a flat bed truck out to pick up all the garbage bags. Very Happy

Shocked Probably would be a good idea to have the cleanup BEFORE they redo the management plan. Can't hurt to build a good image. Also, seems like a good idea to get CGKA involved with this. I'm guessing that CGKA would have more impact than individuals.

If it's removable then we shouldn't need permits right? Kinda like parking your boat or jetski for a few hours next to the beach.

I was out there today, the water is so high there is almost no beach. Lots of logs getting washed up though. one of them was a whole tree had to have been 30ft long and probably 3 ft around if somebody brings out a chaisaw it might be a cool slider.
shouldnt this have happened like a month or two ago Confused
