Again, this is my first season using an slr (used a p&s all last year).
I have a few lenses, but I've always got an eye out for new toys.
I was just wondering which lens comes out of the bag most often?
What is the most useful in terms of focal length? |

| Best all-around lens I have is a Tamron 18-200mm. Works great for sports, particularly kiteboarding, because it allows for both up close, wide angle shooting and decent far away shooting. The perfect lens for a place like the sandbar where kiters go from far away in the channel to within a foot of you in the kiddy pool, then back out very quickly. |

Yeah, but I'm not really into the whole super range zoom lenses.
Having shot on a P&S all last year I am used to this, and comparing image quality to a decent P&S such lenses can defeat the purpose of getting an slr in the first place.
Besides, I don't know how useful f6.3 would be as soon as the clouds poke through.
For most things I just use my nifty fifty (good, fast, CHEAP).
But for kiteboarding, zoom is helpful for sure.
I mostly want to know which specific focal length ranges are used the most. (like 10-24, 18-70, 70-200, 200-300 keeping in mind I have a cropped sensor)
Most companies make superb lenses in these ranges. |

| 18-70 (F3.5-4.5) works for me. Have a cheapy 70-300, but I don't use it too often. Obviously wider is nice at times, but for anything less than 18, you're probably going to want some water protection! I don't like the barrel distortion beyond say ~10 as you're getting below 0.3X. |

I think the F2.8 makes a huge difference. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

I second that, this is a superb lens. IS works great too. I stack 1.4x extender on it when I can get away with f4. _________________ just wear sunscreen |
