My pathfinder got broken into at Sauvies about three hours ago. They punched in the driver's side lock AND broke the driver's side window. They stole three kites and gear but for some reason didn't steal my brand new 11M rev and year old Jimmy Lewis board. The gear stolen was:

Naish 14M Helix, green and white
Naish 9M Cult, blue and white
Ozone Yakuza 5M, red, black and white (four-line foil on handles)
Dakine seat harness
booties and gloves

Sheriff Larry Weaver was out at the scene pretty damn quick.

Sux, eh?

Man, that absolutely sucks. Sorry you had that happen to you. If you have home Owners or Renters insurance, it should be covered, but it still sucks.

We should run a sting on these bastards. They'll probably be back...

Bummer !!! Sorry Dunes. This is why I put my name on my kite. I highly doubt a kiter would steal it....or leave a Rev behind Shocked ....but a kiter would buy it from the piece of shit that stole it.

It's a long shot but if you did see your kite flying locally...maybe you could track the history of purchase....but then what do you do? Long story short...insurance?

I think it was Bulae who got his stolen gear back after a few weeks so maybe you will get lucky.

I feel so bad I was listening to my tunes, dunes.

I guess we need at least one guy/gal sitting up on the dike in a beach chair as a lookout.

Good cop, Larry, told us break-ins at our beach have been rare.

Man, I wish we could have caught them. Dang it. Frustrating.

Dunes, your stand-up is pretty cool.

Sorry we didn't hear them. Confused

That sucks! Sorry to hear.

I had a brand new LF Recoil stolen last year about this time when we were setting up for the Gorge Performance Demo... someone grabbed it and drove away while we were making trips to the van and back across the dunes.

Gave me a bad taste for that place.

Did ride an 8m there that day though...

It's just a bummer to get your fun gear stolen. Make sure to contact the pawn shops, and watch craigs list and notify any shops of the kites etc. You had insurance I hope.

Sorry man,

I got renters insurance through my car insurance company, its only a couple of dollars a month. Many people think u have to be a homeowner but renters ins is way worth it.

Sorry to hear about your stolen gear. It's happened several times at Sauvie's in the last couple of years. One technique that thieves use is they post a lookout at the top of the stairs so they can bolt if you start walking toward your vehicle. I've twice observed where one guy will be standing alone at the top of the dune and a bunch of others will be loitering around a car. The second time I went over and stood next to the guy while watching his friends until they left. I had no doubt what they were doing there. Shocked

That's terrible, I'm so sorry. I always said we'd be in big trouble as soon as the scum figured out how much kite gear was worth and how unguarded it is alot of the time. Think Sherrif Larry would look the other way while we saved him some paperwork and administered a world class beatdown?

I feel your pain. I lost all my gear in the fall from a car break-in. Let the shops know as they are great in keeping a look out. I am not sure what they end up doing with the stuff because mine has never surfaced. I think they build tents out of them under the bridges. Hopefully some insurance will pull through.

Dude, this sucks Sad

Maybe it is a good idea to have a car alarm installed? I never installed alarms in my cars, thinking that alarm wouldn’t stop determined offender, but this seems to be a type of opportunistic break in that could have been prevented by a loud horn going off.

Yeah, I think a car alarm would do it. People would have heard it go off, and it takes just a few seconds to get to the top of the dike to see what's going on. Its not perfect, but its a lot more practical than hiding in the grass at the top of the dike with a high powered rifle Smile

I'm covered by my insurance, less the deductable, but I've still got to hassle with replacing everything, submitting claims and waiting for reimbursement, and I can't use my pathfinder till it gets repaired.

I'd like to keep it from happening to anyone else. I liked the idea of encouraging people to hang out on top of the dike for a while. Also revenge sounds good.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the support and good ideas.

We're all here for ya, FD. Hopefully you were the sacrificial lamb for the rest of the season.

It is a good thing for us all to be reminded to be watchful for anyone out on the water, away from their stuff, to include our goodies on the beach.

Sorry to hear about your gear Dunes - remember to keep checking E-bay, Craig's List, and 2nd hand stores. We'll be on the lookout for you, too. Hope it surfaces.
