The IKite sensor at swell city usually registers a little higher and smoother than Event Site. Forgive my ignorance but where is this and is there a launch there?

There is an ADVANCED only launch at the Hatch, but NO launch whatsoever at Swell.

if you dont know where it is, and what the launch is like, my best guess is that you prolly shouldnt go up there. Especially if your JUST noticing that the wind reads higher up there...

Its pretty much a rocky windsurfer launch. Better to go to the sandbar and head up wind.

Thanks, I dont live in HR area so when I am up there I just want to make the most of my time.
So Swell City is just downriver/upwind of Event site? Around Wells Island or farther?

yes it is ike,

like someone said, I always just go upwind a bunch of tacks from event site to swell/ hatch. it's a real interesting trip with more wind when you get there usually

Swell (and the Hatch) is on the WA side a mile or so down river from the Event site. The winds tends to be steadier (if there is such a thing as steady wind in the gorge). As the other posters suggest it better to tack upwind from the sandbar than launch at the hatch or swell although I have seen it done.

Today the S aspect of the wind messed up the Event Site sensor while Swell had a cleaner wind. Wind speed was seriously degraded on the OR side vs. the WA side. One of those days where everyone on the beach seems to be rigging small and your launcher may make a comment like "Taking a 12 out, eh?" when most everyone else is on a 10 or even 7s.
Shocked

I give out bad advice.

PostSat May 31, 08 4:50 am    The launch to Hatch and Swell is the kite Spit Reply with quote

Launch at the spit and go upwind to the lower hatch and you are there. Launching at the hatch is stupid and a waste of time. You will save .50 cents and become far better kite rider if you launch at the spit and kite up to the hatch.

If you can't do that don't launch at The Hatch.

Just my O,
Very Happy

Dude, lot of my friends launch at the Hatch and they have it wired. Not me though; gotta have someone there to launch you and grab your kite when you come in. They make it look easy but....... maybe worth a try, at least a drive by. As some said wind is usually steadier and stronger at the hatch so launching from the spit could be tricky to get back down wind after you session the Hatch. Lotta times there is a windline just past wells isle and no wind at the spit. The swell at the hatch and Swell City are sweet! Don't let the to cool for school crew here turn you off; they usually are the ones that got picked last for touch football back in grade school and this is all they have.
