Extended Forecast
Columbia River forecast issued 5/23/2008 at 7:00 AM by meteorologist Stuart Hill
Light wind setup through the extended period with limited pockets of flow.
Going out on a limb and saying that it won't be calm in the gorge the next few days but the setup really isn't good for strong winds. Upper trough continues to hold ground just to the east of the Gorge and will displace the wind giving Pacific High from the coast AND usher in a surface Low that keeps clouds and rain into the region and winds light. However, a good chance that this surface low will whip through a few shortwaves thus we may see some periods of westerlies especially in the east but we're talking teens here not 20s.

Saturday:
Light morning for all the Gorge. Weak shortwave is showing up on the computers for the afternoon and this may spark off some westerlies late in the day. Likely isolated east of Dougs but a few mid to upper teen bumps possible. Gusty and unstable at best. Western Gorge and Central Gorge low teens to sub 10.
Coast NW flow low teens south less than 10 north. NW Swell 10 ft.

Sunday:
Continued light winds. Afternoon westerlies again to try to kick in but without much success. Another mid teen round possible for the east and weaker for Central and Western Gorge. Watch trends though as a stronger shortwave could pull more flow in here but wind quality doesn't look good.
Coast shifting to south winds 10 or less. NW swell 6 ft.

Monday:
Possibly a transitional day here. But most likely another weak wind setup with very limited afternoon westerly nudges. Stay tuned.
Coast Light winds. West Swell 4 ft.
