Back to Rufus.
GeneK and I had a mental day of lapping the ponds and enjoying the flat water. We each did about 30 kite loops on the 6m Havoc. Katie did an accidental upwinder to the ponds and had to swim back, her first Rufus kitemare.

UPDATE......
The Town Of Rufus is not going to be doing their BBQ.
So, we are going to do a potluck. Everyone bring one type of food based on the following:
If your last name starts with A-F bring an appetizer
G-L Bring a salad
M-R Bring a main dish
S-Z bring desert
We will do everything at the launch. You can see the fireworks right from your camp, so no need to drive anywhere.

There is a bathroom and that's it. Bring a tent and good stakes. Also bring a really comfortable mattress. There is no dirt, just round little rocks.

| For those wanting a few more creature comforts, Dechutes State Park 10 miles to the west has a few more primative sites available this weekend.

Due to the crappy forecast the Rufus Rockpile Rodeo is canceled.
The good part is we are going to rally for the coast. I am hoping for some downwinders on the North Coast.
The Plan: Meet at the SummerHouse in Seaside, figure out the wind, go kiting. Picnic, then camp somewhere. Hopefully we can find a camp spot that will accommodate us.
SORRY for those who have to drive further, but we have to work with what mother nature gives us.

Wed Jun 25, 08 10:35 am party camping location? |
|
|
There are no state parks with camping close and I've read bad reviews on the public campgrounds.
I found a 6 bedroon house that sleeps 14 and as well as a lot of smaller houses including 2 that sleep 6 each that are 2 blocks apart. They are ranging about $20-$25/night per person including the cleaning fee. (There are cheaper, smaller ones too.)
Anyone want to go in on getting a house? If we get a big one, it might be able to hold a small party. Or is there another locatioon that the locals know of?
Here's a link to the rental info and the place I found that is available. They will do it for 2 nights, Fri and Sat. http://www.beachhouse1.com/detail.asp?property_id=56

Good finds Carol. Having a party around here would be great. The KOA at Ft. Stevens is a pretty nice place really but a big house is sweet. You'll probably get a little flak if there's people camping all over though - give it a try though.
That big house is nice and close to town for bar hopping and beach fires... moving closer to the North is preferable for kiting though. Look for something N of 10th St.
Camping at private campgrounds here in Seaside is typically right on the highway.

Ft. Stevens State Park - I called the state park reservation system and they said Ft. Stevens and Manzanita are 100% booked and their web site is down although it shows availibility.
Ft. Stevens KOA - they have 5 tent spaces for $42.85 per night for 2 adults and they have hookup spots for $48.35 for 2 adults. So still in the $20-$25 per person per night range. No group or non-hookup available.
Seaside Bars and Houses - Are there any good bars that you suggest in Seaside that we could for hit and target houses in walking distance?
Chime in if you are up for going and in need of a good wave session!

The KOA across the street from Fort Stevens is pretty nice and they have room if people want to camp. For the price though the house might be a better deal. See you all out there this weekend.
