Sorry didnt mean to start anything. Embarassed

Is there much adjustment required in flying one brand vs. another brand. I have only flown one brand of kite and am considering a different brand?

PM me if you have an opinion but feel it is an inapropriate topic.

yes VS I love this stuff. I would get a kite with depowers and pipes for the internets. If your learning you should stick to what safety your used to

Brands aren't everything... even just different kites from the same brand can be more of a difference than different brands.

I wouldn't think about it too much, just demo kites until you find something that works.

Would just like to note that we have two locked threads in two days - not bad for a days work - maybe we can keep it rolling Laughing just messing around.

Ike - its all good man. It happens - just do a search through the locked threads and you will see what I mean.

Switching from kite to kite - they are going to have a very different feel yes. Some kites have a very big wind range with an ability to dump out most of the power. While other kites are going to feel much more stable. Some have a lot of bar pressure - while others it is very light.

Also, the kites you mentioned before, one of them is a four line kite and the other is a five line kite. They are going to relaunch differently.

As far as the lesson goes - I would use their stuff - trash theirs. But the biggest difference regarding the learning curve is going to be relaunching. Make sure you know how to relaunch your own kites. If you do - then you should be all good - there will be differences but you can adjust along the way. If you don't know how to relaunch your kites - then you should at least take a lesson to figure that out.

Also, self-rescue is going to be very important. The two different kites have different self-rescue procedures. If you do not know how to self-rescue with your own kites then you should take a lesson to figure that out.

I have my kites and their flying/rescue techniques down. Just want to work on some board skills w/o worrying about the kite behaving significantly differantly

Just get as good as you can on what you've got. You'll either hit a performance plateau or destroy the kites in the process, at which point you may have a better idea of what you want out of a kite and what you want to spend to get it.

I have 5 kites from 5 different brands. Just bought what was cheap and available, and all but 1 used. I like all of them except the 17m 2005 4-line C kite (lesson learned there) and it just takes a minute to remember how each flies. After that, I usually end up thinking the kite I just flew is my favorite. At the same time, it's not like I'm switching between bow kites and C kites every other day, that might be a little more difficult to get accustomed to.

I'd add that kites in the same class, from different manufacturers tend to fly in different zones of the window. Some more forward, some more back. That took me some time to realize what it did to my pimpin style Cool .

If you have the basics down then I would use their kites - its always cool to get a different feel for kites.

The two different kites do fly different in the wind window as barfly mentioned - the kites you own fly fairly far back in the wind window and the other kites you mentioned fly farther up. You can adjust to the difference - you just need to be aware of the differences.

Thanks for the input. I went with the schools kite which was a different model of the brand they use. It was interesting to see the differance in flying which was significant but not that hard to adjust too. Best part is I was going upwind by the end of the lesson.
