Wed May 21, 08 7:46 pm Replacing old Naish handle |
|
|
I am learning to ride. Description of my progress (or lack thereof) is a matter for another post. To the point, I have an old Naish board. It suits me fine at my current level, since I got it cheap, and I am not very concerned if I lose it. But I would like to get better handle on this board. I wonder if there is a way to replace this flimsy piece of tubing? Newer board handles are shorter, drop in replacement doesn’t seem possible.
I could carve a handle from an old piece of wood to match the screws span, or I could get shorter handle and drill holes through the board. Neither seems ideal. Do you have other suggestions? What’s your advise?

| I made a handle out of garden hose once, and inserted an aluminum tube into it so that part of the handle (middle 3/5ths or so) was rigid. worked pretty well. It was still a bit sloppy but the part you grab onto was pretty robust. It's a very cheap way to help "fix" your current problem

I'm not a handle lover but never miss an opportunity
to take on a new application for VHB tape. You'd think
I have stock in 3M.
Go bother NSI and maybe they can talk me into cutting
some of these. Anyone else out there better speak up
since this may be the only time you see this. Best thing
is it will made right here in HR by me and the fine folks
down at NSI.
gecko peel and stick handle
(dumb-ass name, I know - it's late)
Might look better in white so be sure to specify.
Hell, anything will look better than that dork hose.
Oh, and you won't see any handle demos down at
the sandbar.
P.S. And it's patent fucking pending for all you R&D thieves out there.
Go think up your own shit for crying out loud.

Thanks Spike. Cheap and easy, I may consider it as an workable solution. I used garden landscaping tubing for the "put the board on" trainer I build to get around difficulties I had bending for getting board on my feet last year. Piece of aluminum or PVC pipe could be just enough to keep the handle steady.

gecko peel and stick handle [GSPH] is an awesome solution to my problem.

Uh, it will look best in the least expensive configuration. What is the price?

Here is he handle I make for NSI now. It costs $19
I've mounted some with VHB and it holds well for about a season.
The gecko has a bigger mounting surface so should stay on permanently.
It will cost a bit more due to the VHB and takes more material to make.
Call NSI and request that they start offering it if you want one. Or just
get the one they have and ask for some VHB to mount it.

P.S. And take a look at some new foot straps while you are there.

my feeling is if it ain't broke- don't fix it. Blue, the hose handle may not look pretty but if it does the job--stick with it.

White handle doesn't harmonize with my new purple gojoe

Thanks Hein, I will give them a call tomorrow.
I made a temporary handle from copper tubing covered with garden hose, inspired by Spike's suggestion. It is firm and gives me better control of the board while getting my feet in the straps, but the grip is not optimal.

| You dont even need a handle unless you are doing board off tricks"OG". Try grabing the board by the edge, place one foot of your choosing on the board. Now push the drift wood you call a board away from you, and place your other hoof in the strap. Lower the kite, wiggle around and repeat. ENJOY

What non-obvious detail of the handle is patent pending?
VHB tape rules, more uses than duct tape!
At home depot you can get thicker tubing than a garden hose and it will work fine. Save your $20 for when you decide to buy a new board.
