it seems like the coast is lining up to fire rightously... this weekend, it may be the place to be...get out of those swift currents of the river...
3 days of downwinders anyone?
i wonder if the winds will hold through the next weekend when the big nelscott contest is? |

If it blows we'll certainly be doing some downwinders. Just gotta figure out where. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

| I will be hitting the coast to get away from school for the long weekend and would like to link up with some other kiters. Where do you think you will be headed? |

Might be time to wiggle out of work Thur-Fri and hit the coast. I'm seriously considering it. Should be windy with 8-9ft swell _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Are you saying that Newport is unsafe for newer kiters or that you do not want newer kiters on your beach? |

| if you are learning, don't be intimidated by grumpy veterans, but do be intimidated by an 8-9ft swell. There is tons of room on the coast to learn. Just walk 100 yards passed other kiters/beach goers. |

I'm gonna go with the jetty isn't a very newb friendly place. also kiting in the the ocean is a whole different ball game, having nothing short of excellent kite control is a must, especially in the swell that the coast is getting right now. |

ditto to DRock.
if you want some coastal action, and you're a beginner, north sunset (shipwreck) is an acceptable place... stay north of seaside or get eaten by the troll... |

Seems like this discussion comes up every year. . . last year verbal jabs where being sent back and forth talking about point break riding at Florence. It all worked out in the end and the newbie's kinda broke down and adhered to the local protocol. . .as it should be IMHO. "When in Rome, do as Romans do."
So if you have some doubts (really any) about your skills as a wave sailor, you probably should take it easy and stay out of the choice lineup that occurs at any jetty. Those areas are rare commodities and when a non-competent rider clogs up the choice riding area/wave break, they are going to piss off most of the other riders out there waiting for those glassy waves.
Go a couple hundred yards downwind and try the inside break. . . when you get tired, Go watch the competent wave riders at the break and you'll pick up many "tricks of the trade" just by observing and when those riders are done, maybe drink some beer w/them and pick their brains on what you saw out there.
My three cents worth. . .now it is time for me to hit the North Coast. Troll, offerings are coming your way. Let the downwinders begin! |

Computer models don't look like the classic north wind scenario. Could be gusty and cloudy conditions, and only time will tell what happens. |

i agree. i think it will be funky at best. not a good complement to 10ft swell.

Solid 11m out front for the 3pm high tide. Terrain was a bit jumbled with the short interval. Finally put the gloves and booties away for the season!
Blew right into the evening for the post sunset landboard sesh.
Flags are already pegged this morning!
The TROLL was elevated and welcoming. |
