So, I have surfed all up and down the So. Cal. Coast, Mexico, and most of Maui, but surfing in Oregon is way too cold. The paddle out seems to dangerous, or the dry suit is just too tight. I did have fun at Otter Rock on a really Long board, but I'm having trouble deciding if it is worth it to build an 8 to 9 foot thruster for Or. coast.

So here is my quetions for those of you who are kind enough to answer:

1. How often do you surf the oregon coast? No kite, just surf.

2. Is it shore break or slow break? You don't have to tell me where I know all the spots.

3. If you list your favorite board list your weight and surfing ability.

Thanks,
Ron Very Happy

Your not new board will not solve the problem of the water is too cold, your drysuit is too small or the paddle out is too dangerous.

Surfing can be super fun but it also seems like a hell of allot of driving, swimming and waiting for not a whole lot of surfing. Not to mention that the surfing community is less than enthusiastic about newcomers.

Cold? It's great when it's raining and you can see your breath.

I surf when the surf is good and the wind is not good for kiting. For stretches, this can be 2-4 times a week. When it is bad weather, or windy I may not get out much at all. Living in Seaside makes it easy to do when you can jump right on it though.

For those of us in this category (meaning I'm not really a ripper that goes out regardless, or is pining for a DOH point day), a performance long board is ideal. I also have a 6' fish quad and a 6'10" thruster, all poly. Generally, these boards would all be a little too slow, thick and long if I didn't have to wear a 6mil wetsuit. I'd take that into account when choosing a blank. The epoxies are awesome, however, b/c they offer more float and less weight. If I were investing now, I'd go this direction.

So, I'm in the process of building a surf board and wanted to get the inside skinny on what the Or. surfers are doing. Thanks for the heads up on the Epoxy floater vrs. the glass sinker.
I'm leaning towards a nice 9 foot light thruster set up with plenty of float but light enough to make quick turns.

There is nothing more fun than just pure surfing on a nice medium to slow break 3 foot to head high wave. SHWEEEEEEEEEET

Not a survey Spike,

Peace,
Very Happy

Why do boardf shops tell you that there are two types of boards: epoxy and glass??!?! Both polyester and epoxy boards use fiberglass as a reinforcement, it is only the resin matrix that is different.
