Anyone care to make some predictions about the sandbar?
1) How long is the water going to be high?
2) How much do you think the sandbar will change as a result of the high water / high flow?
3) Overall, do you think the really high water will have a positive or negative impact on the sandbar this summer?

That's very troubling. I think we could take the event site beach though sheer numbers though.

As far as the sandbar is concerned, it's not going to be to heavily affected. I think history shows us that the sandbar grows rather than shrinks.
The water is going to continue to do this overnight at the beginnings of the work week to ramp up for peak loads on Mondays.
My predictions are the weekends will be toby due to the lack of launch space on the Sandbar but if we all encourage people to roll up their lines it won't be a big deal.
Honestly, riding with the water this high is awesome cause there is so much room with waist deep water to mess around in.

Aha, now that makes sense. I agree that the higher water makes for better riding, the kiddie pool is big enough for everyone now!

Has anyone ever thought about designating some kind of beginner or lesson area for the sand bar? I've got no problems with beginners as we all have been there before but it does seem at times that there are people learning or parking everywhere you are trying to get to when launching or landing.
Then again, maybe there are simply too many people learning for one location. Just a thought I had.

Kinda enjoyed the guy and his wife with the 4m foil trying to figure it out over about dozen kites and kiters - was about to tell him to move along when he crashes down, narrowly missing someone.
But in true sandbar Karma another kook tomahawks his 12m just feet from the two of them That got them to move along.
I think the Sandbar should remain like Thunderdome - anything goes.

now that is hilarious,
here are my predictions
1) water will be high until it cools down again and snow does not melt as fast, probably by wednesday after the cold front is here for a couple of days, but i'm no expert.
2) specifically, i think for this year, it will provide very little change, like other people said, if anything more sediment will probably come down while shifting some sand in front of the eventsite.
3) i think the high water will attract just as many kooks as it deters. some people will think, oh it is super shallow, i can go learn wherever i want, and other people will say eff that it is too crowded of a launch. personally i think people wanting to learn, (that are not self sufficient atleast and launching/landing/riding out) at high water, should pay for lessons. it is dangerous out there with lots of logs and rocks and sticks. leave the highwater for people that are self-sufficient. i know this is somewhat of an elitist attitude, but i think it is pretty dangerous to try and learn out on the sandbar when everything is under water cause you can't see any of the debris and there is teency-tiny launch.
when the sandbar was totally covered in 05? or 06? (and i was still learning) we did some renegade launching over at marina park, not that i am saying anyone should do this.
and blowhard, glenn has been calling it the gaybar almost as long as he has been kiting.
OMFG that water is high

hmmm, thunderdome could work.
"Two kooks enter, one kook leaves"
"Two kooks enter, one kook leaves"
I don't think enforcement would be a problem if there was something to enforce.
Its one thing to say, hey can you do that anywhere but here. But its another to say, you would be more comfortable in the designated beginner zone. It's been my experience that allot of beginners are more worried about pissing people off then they are about personal safety.
I've seen people go off on some beginners for practicing in the kiddie pool and they were like "how am I supposed to know not to clog up this area?" Just having them luanch and land near the tip of the spit would alleviate much of the problem.

That was my experience as a beginner. I just wanted some place where I could totally kook out and light my kite on fire if I wanted to, without any disapproving looks from the local watermen.
Unfortuantely HR is just such an icon, it will always attract beginners. Isn't there a designated area for lessons? Maybe that should be where the beginners go.
Maybe they could be assigned a pink Go Joe with a number upon entry...
