Yeah I said it. Where?
I've been clipping it to one of the rear lines, so that the kite flags if I pull the rip-cord (that's how my old bar+lines were set up). But that's really inconvenient if i down-loop. So I'm thinking of the donkey-loop. But, I'm worried that the kite won't be completely depowered in that situation. Isn't the point just to 'turn off' the kite when you pull the rip cord? Any advice? I have an 07 best bar. |

| I use to clip mine to the rear line as well but the leash would always get in the way. I would recommend that you clip it to the metal loop just above the chicken loop (on the line running through the bar). That way, the leash is out of the way, and you still get complete depower if you pull the quick release. If you leash to the chicken loop, your setting yourself up with the suicide system. Be careful. |

i clip mine to the leash attachment (one of the front lines passes through a ring and is tied to another ring to it wont slip through). but if I want to try unhooked stuff i clip it to the chicken loop below the bar (the rope, not the actual plastic loop that hooks into your harness) Last edited by Spike on Sat May 17, 08 9:20 am; edited 1 time in total |

| On Waroos, I assume? If so, in order to kill the kite completely, you probably want it on an "Oh Shit" handle, which I think you have it on now (forgive me if I'm wrong, I don't know Best bars/kites all that well). If you do clip it to the CL, the kite will not come anywhere close to fully depowering. It'll only go as much as the stopper ball allows (which is still plenty within its normal flying range). On a 4 line kite, one of the center lines would still be best as the kite will flag out faster, but I don't think that's an option here..? |

| On the 07 Best bar if you clip to the small metal ring (handlepass leash attatchment) just above the chicken loop, this will bypass the stopper ball and depower the kite |

| Thanks, I see that ring now. I saw some pics of people with it clipped to the CL, but they were unhooked. I see the difference now. Thanks. |

If you keep the stopper ball out as far as it'll go then you'll get as much depower having it on the chicken loop (suicide style) as clipping it to the end of the depower strap which bypasses the stopper. I think having it on the end of the depower strap (or something similar) is pretty standard on many kites. It works great for spins and unhooking and still depowers the kites quite a bit if you fall. Clipping it to the chicken loop allows for much quicker recovery after a wipeout. Don't even need to relaunch it most of the time. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

quite a long string on this subject on the "other" forum lately, something that bears careful consideration: "where do i clip my safety?"
the trade-off for me on my sonics is this: at the top of the kites' windrange, clipping into the lines anywhere but at a sliding stopper ball on a flying (center) line is dicey. why? because when really lit the kite still has consideable pull even at "full depower."
flagging out to a center line is largely thought to be the safest exit door from bad ju-ju. however, there is afterwards exactly zero chance of water re-launch.
so. . . clip into a suicide configuration and hope for the best but with instant relaunch. or clip into the sliding center line and shut that bitch up if you need to, but live with the consequences of a downed kite.
by the way, my experience w/sle's is never to put my safety on a steering line. maybe you dudes know better than i, but isnt that a ticket for the endless kite-loop spiral of death thing? |
