curious what people will drive to get to their home kite beach and how many miles a week NW folks typically drive to kiteboard.

is there a way to do a survey here for peeps to vote phil?

50 mpg driving to the beach 55mph for an hour each way, 1980 advanced green technology , no carbon offsets. running 99 bio making your food more expensive Twisted Evil

( not that it costs more to run the tractors and truck everything ,that couldn't be making food more expensive) . that mileage is with carpooling with 2 men and two shit monster tail waggers, who are far from being green.

the fifty mile per hour rig gets bypassed at times to drive the extra fifty feey onto the sand though, when the f-350 17mph beast is paraded. carbon excess comfort credits galore in need. Rolling Eyes

2-3 times a week when the doctor and schedule allows only 5 days this year so far Crying or Very sad

got cleared today to ride in time for the coast to shut down for a week. Mad

03 matrix getting around 33mpg now cause I beat on it. Per week, probably 100 miles or so. Carpooled three times this year though. Which is pretty cool if you think about it. Cut our carbon production in half.

Based on a quarter century of chasing waves, I've learned the hard way not to chase perfect meteorology. Never chase waves or wind, if it's happening suit up.

That said, I'll drive as far as necessary to avoid the crowd (how's that for ultimate irony).

Kiteboarding Green? - sort of. Your kites were manufactured overseas in a place that has little or no environmental regulation, those kites were shipped to you at a high carbon price, your board is dependent on chemical processes that emit all sorts of ugly stuff (and have their own carbon emission issues). It was likely manufactured overseas as well.

We as a user base are probably, on calculation of the true carbon balance, greener than any fossil fuel using recreation... thats a pretty low bar.

Greener than other bad stuff. I'm carpooling to my secret spots these days.

Out of curiosity are folks quoting there gas milage per sticker or are they actually filling the tank and then driving and doing the calculation when they fill next time? Starting in 2008 they began requiring MPG to be calculated differently and more realistically.

I suppose the computer should be accurate if it tells you your average MPG but I would check it occasionally anyway.

I'd say I'll average 200 miles a week at 33 mpg when I'm loaded with roof racks and gear, carpool sometimes.

up in seattle, I drive 50 miles roundtrip to our best beach, jetty island. I'll hit this beach a couple of times a week, maybe 3-4 times. I got a vanagon that gets 20 plus per gallon.
many of my friends leave a pretty generous carbon footprint chasing wind in the gorge, but this year I see more carpool involvement.
Usually when I hit the gorge, instead of going every weekend, I try and make an extended weekend of 3 or 4 days and go down half as many times.
This month, I'm looking at modifying my V Rod with board racks though so I can cut my fuel costs in half. and look bad ass at the beach.

but I'd be pretty tired by the time I beat to windward for home

Yeah for sure, Phil. Boarding and kiting plus making trips between here and Corvallis (only to visit the gf now) have me at ~17k a year.
