I have my license for Texas, but I chose never to carry in the end after going through all the education to get the permit.

Concealed carry permit isn't a license to kill. It will in fact make you guilty until proven innocent should you ever have to use your weapon. You can only shoot someone if your life is in danger of ending and there is no way to flee, or if someone is kidnapping your child. Should you use your weapon, your life is pretty much over for a few years while the courts sort you out.

forest , so if you are a victim of armed robbery and rape you would let your girlfriend fend for herself while you thought about weather you should blast that sucka... very nobile. ahh yes not a license to kill but a way to protect yourself if this type of shit happens. sure probably not good if your shooting hitchhikers or people on the corner asking for money.

Yea, that's a tough one. It has to be life threatening. If she had the weapon, then she could use it, but the court wouldn't be so understanding since I probably could have just hit him with a stick or a rock.

The educational classes you have to take to get the permit explain these scenarios and what you should do.

I don't think I could handle watching anyone mess with my wife.

Oh, the nicest thing about a permit is handing it to the officer if you get pulled over. They will be almost completely different since they know you've passed the background checks required to get a concealed permit, which includes them knowing you're not a felon.

Depends on the State and County. Unfortunately, Multnomah County is pretty bad when it comes to protecting yourself. The DA and the Sheriff both seem to think you should sit back and take it. Your Wife's getting Raped? Well that's not so bad... Twisted Evil Over here in Clark County they'll most likely give you a medal if you shoot the bastard! Very Happy

Seriously, you have to remember that when you shoot someone, in defense of yourself or others, the goal is not to kill them. The goal is to stop their actions that imperil life or limb. The fine difference between those two goals is what separates us from the scum. Of course, the side effect of stopping someone properly is that they most likely die.

Actually one of the worst things you could do. The odds of missing go up quite a bit. Then the odds of hitting an innocent bystander go up quite a bit too. You aim for the center of mass for several reasons. First and foremost, it's the biggest target. Much less likely to miss. Second, hitting the center of mass has the most likelihood of stopping the bad guy from doing whatever it is he's doing. That's the reason you're shooting them in the first place. Third, a bullet hitting the center of mass is far less likely to pass through the target and injure somebody else.

Never shoot to wound; that's Hollywood crap. If you have to shoot somebody, shoot to stop them from doing what they're doing. That means center of mass, period. If they're not doing something that warrants lethal force to stop them, you shouldn't be shooting them.

don't forget is you actually shoot someone and are eventually found not guilty in a court of law, they (or there family if you killed them) can still sue you.

I met a guy in the alvord several years ago shot a guy (he had a conceleed weapon permit) and he said it was a complete hell. Long story short, it was a road rage incident where the guy came at him with a bat even though he had the gun drawn and told him to drop it. He eventually shot him in the leg and shattered his thigh bone. he was found not guilty but the guy sued him for pain and suffering, it went on for two years and cost him for than 20k in legal fees--he eventually won the case.

he said if he did it over, he would have shot him in the head. his words versus nobody's....

NAK is right, and in Oregon at least if you personally feel that you or somebody else's life is in danger you can try to "stop them" from doing what they are doing with a deadly weapon.
