Thu Apr 03, 08 1:19 pm nichols boat basin sold? |
|
|
so i just got a text from a friend telling me, the nichols boat basin has been sold and there is a public meeting on april 7th at 5:30pm. 211 East 2nd and state. (hope this is accurate, will update if not).
if we dont want them to build condos that we'll have to drive by every time we go to the spit, we should definately voice our concern at this meeting.
furthermore, i'm guessing most of these condos will rent or sell for more than what the locals can really afford to pay for them, which is my major concern with condos going up down by our waterfront. |

| If someone does develop this property it is likely they will push for dredging out the channel. Also did it sell or is it the same people who bought it 2 years ago I think they just got a epa go ahead. |

Naito Development of Portland originally was planning on putting a marina and condos in on the area but backed out when they heard how much it would cost to dredge the mouth to the basin.
I always thought it would be pretty rad to have the area developed for a cable park. _________________ www.lancekoudele.com |

The April 7th meeting was added due the lack of turn out at the previous meeting last month (it was at the same time as the Casino meeting in Cascade Locks).
Many people had commented about the difficulty in being able to attend last months meeting, so this meeting is apparently being offered as a replacement.
I believe that this is also being run by both the Port of HR and Naito (the owner that purchased the property a little over a year ago).
Their intentions are likely to be about discussing Naito's intentions with the property and hearing about public concern or comments.
This could be a good place to determine if kiters could either benefit from the development, or run into headaches.

The April 7th meeting is before the City of Hood River Planning Commission. It is an opportunity for the community to weigh in on Naito's proposed development.
April 9th is the port's community out reach meeting regarding the frontage road

If the property is zoned for condos..then condos is what they shall build.
Getting upset over the fact that people are building houses or condos that you could never afford is a losing proposition. Been to Portland lately? How may Portland or Oregon locals are buying spaces in the "california towers"?
I'm not saying it doesn't suck but it might inject a little money and job opportunities into HR's less than stellar economy. _________________ Bury me standing cause I won't lay down!!
