Tue Apr 01, 08 11:30 am Flying NWA with Kite Gear |
|
|
I've mentioned on here before that NWA doesn't charge for kiteboarding gear, so I thought I should post the new changes to luggage policy. NWA has followed suit with a number of other airlines and is charging $25 for your second piece of luggage; only one bag is now allowed free. (Unless you have a lot of frequent flier miles.)
Kiteboarding gear is still not specifically charged, but there's a caveat now. Before, if the gear wasn't listed then no charge. Now, there's a special number to call if the gear isn't listed. I'm a big believer in "Don't ask the question if you don't want to know the answer" so I'd just call your twintips "Snowboards". Snowboards are specifically listed as "No Charge". I'm sure it's possible to snowboard with your Misfit... Bear in mind that the $25 fee for a second piece of luggage will apply.
There is also something now about a 62 inch length limit. $80 for going over that... I've not measured my bags yet so I'm not sure how much of an issue that will be? I don't think the Agents are real big on that, but you never know... When in doubt, curbside check in! Of course, NWA policy is that no curbside for oversize bags, but the Skycap isn't going to give up his tip over a little rule.
You can only curbside your free bags, so that means one bag per ticket now. The Skycaps are really going to be hurt/pissed off by this because it cuts their business in half.
Finally, remember to look at the airlines website and check out luggage policies BEFORE you buy your ticket. Add what your luggage is going to cost to get the true cost of the flight. |

Hey Lord Alex! Where were you Sunday and Monday? Kailua was up and down, but when it was up it was really nice.
I think Silver Elite qualifies... Check the website to be sure though. |

| No, I'm bouncing around now. Just a quick 24 hour layover was all I had. Enjoy the swell! |

| Geno and I just checked in for our flight to LA. Heading down to Punta San Carlos for 10 days. The curb side dudes asked us twice if the bags were sails... We told them no. They're picking up on DaKine bags as well. |

punta san carlos... sounds sweet...
FACT - The local San Carlos area has its own micro climate system most likely due to the fact in is located on the edge of two diverse climate zones. That causes it to get very windy when the adjacent area is blowing a mild 8-10 mph. Unfortunately a very popular Internet wind report website broadcasts Punta San Carlos wind predictions based on the outside areas and is wrong a great deal of the time.
FACT - Punta San Carlos is windy 12 months a year. Your expectations will drive your stoke. A lot of Gorge folks really like the white out of March - May. The hardcore wave riders avoid these NUKING days because it isn't the perfect wave riding conditions - so go out. So what is the perfect wave riding day? Ask the hardcores and they will say "just enough wind to sail out and its perfect to drive down the line, in control, smacking the lip as you go on a well shaped wave face." Punta San Carlos dishes up all that and everything in between - all in one day.
FACT - Punta San Carlos is great on a south & northwest/west swell. Late October and April enjoy the best of both worlds as they are transitional swell months. KT and I love the fall. Late souths, early wests, incredible sunsets and the perfect combo of surf in the morning, kite in the afternoon. |

| If you bought your ticket before March 29, you're grandfathered under the old baggage policy. I'd go to the website, look up baggage policies, and print that section. The agents will probably know it, but you never know... Have fun in Hawaii! |
