maybe we should just take crappy old hand saws out there and try to cut the logs flat under the water as close to the sand as possible? so that they cannot impale someone if they were to hit it or land on it somehow.
taking chainsaws out into wet sandy wood is not a good idea. dull blades and who knows what other problems. also it is extremely difficult to move stumps that are buried in wet sand. if not impossible sometimes without winches and blocks and pulleys.
people don't want them marked with bottles, which is fine, but i do think we should make the launch safer. if there is only a few logs then we should be able to go cut them off underwater. might take a while and we'll dull some saws, but i think this might be the best solution, IMO.
given that there are only 3 logs at the moment it seems like cutting them should be an easy task, then we can focus our efforts on how to avoid the RR tracks, IMO. |

I kite at Lyle fairly regularly and I could take or leave the logs. I thought allot about marking them but perhaps we should take a look at what marking them will accomplish.
It seems to me that most of the logs are readily visible most of the year (or maybe they are not) if they are "lurking" then they should be marked so that people know not to be landing near them or to pay attention when upwind of them.
My biggest fear is that somebody gets lofted into them or overshoots a jump, or tries an unhooked move and gets dragged into them. As one might expect, your probably not going to jump up and walk away unscathed from getting slammed into a log. The fact of the matter is, shit happens, to ALL of us. What is that statistic about kiteboarding accidents happening predominantly to kiteboarders with over 2 years of experience?
Having the logs marked won't really help this.
Perhaps we just mark the lurkers and leave the other logs alone. Has anyone ever been seriously hurt at Lyle from the logs?
If we want to get rid of them, there has to be a way to float them out of there. Like maybe slip some truck inner tubes around them and inflate them?
Maybe we could tie them up with a rope and then lasso a barge with the other end. _________________ Bury me standing cause I won't lay down!!

I agree with Adam (like the avatar). If there is only three logs that are in potential danger zone, lets get rid of them. I would feel horrible if someone impaled themselves on one of them. Also, if they are the ones I am thinking of, by moving them the area will flow better. At least one of them is in the way of a clean take off, straight tack to the channel.
Maybe a curved prunning saw (think nasty sharp serrated saw teeth) or tree saw (wide gap between teeth) would the best. Lets either move them or cut them down to the sand level. Or a pry bar and another log in front as a fulcrum. To help roll them out of the way. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...
