Tue Mar 25, 08 11:11 am safety pin on 2007 Best bars |
|
|
Hi folks;
I have a 2007 Best bar for my 9m Waroo. I was checking out my gear the other day when I noticed something fishy about the safety pin on the chicken loop. See the attached images. I noticed that if I put a lot of tension on the apex of the chicken loop that the safety pin will back out about 1/2" from its sheath. Have others with Best bars noticed this.
No gear wars, please. With infinite time and money one can always find superior gear.

| Under tension, it's hard to see but the pin has backed out about 1/2" |

| No tension, pin is completely in its sheath. |

| I know what you are talking about. You may not be inserting it correctly - the system is a bit on the complicated side. You can actually put it in incorretly and it will fly just fine - but you see that the pin will start moving back and back and back - I saw this happening to my set up - I thought there was no way that it was designed to fly like this - so I messed around with it and found that I was inserting it incorrectly - once I inserted it correctly it didn't back out hardly at all. By the way - I do not recommend flying it while its inserted incorrectly - my system never came undone, however, with a strong gust it very well may have triggered the release.

Thanks for the reply Terremoto.
I am fairly sure that the pin is properly inserted but I could be wrong. I have the pin running through the metal loop, the tiny loop of nylon cord, and into the black nylon sheath. If you have a photo with the cover removed, can you PM me?
thanks,
jc

There are two pictures.
This is how I have mine set up and the pin backs out very little.
First push the metal loop through the nylon loop. Then put the pin through the metal loop. Finally put the pin in the sheath. If that doesn't work let me know.

I'll second Terremoto. Double check how you have the pin set up, sounds like you might not have the metal loop going through the rope loop. I had mine put together wrong a while back. Link to thread on Best forum regarding this issue: http://forum.bestkiteboarding.com/viewtopic.php?t=6801

Hum, I'll have to check my bar. Two weeks ago at Rufus my chicken loop came undone after a crash.
I ejected my leash somehow in the struggle to grab the kite, but luckily I grabbed the chicken loop and was ok. Depower kites are nice.
I had to come off the water to get things sorted. The design could be improved to reattach the loop. I’ll check the exact arrangement.

Big thanks, Terremoto;
I saw my problem, that tiny little loop of white nylon at the end of the pin sheath hooks over the metal loop at the end of the plastic tubing.
That tiny loop of nylon cord is super short! I had to futz for about a minute to thread all the parts correctly. It seems that the white nylon loop holds a lot of tension.
No way would I have figured that out on the beach. It pays to have pictures.
thanks again,
jc

Tim if its ejecting by itself you may have the nylon loop in the wrong place. Double check it - premature ejection sucks
