just opened the ballot. it appears that whoever fails to be elected president will not hold any executive position in the CGKA. these two are obviously both very well liked and qualified to lead our organization. so i am confused why there is not a fall back position for for the loser to still be part of the brain trust for the CGKA. it seems that this person could at least be assured a seat on the board of directors. in future elections could the 2nd place vote getter become VP? in professional organizations i am part of, the president can only hold office one year and the outgoing president is still part of the executive board as a consultant. not a criticism of whoever designed the current system, just throwing out ideas.

personally i would love to vote for both jim and garret. we need to make sure that we make room for both of them to help our growing organization flourish. yet i know there can be only one president.

good luck you guys. i'll stuff the ballot box for you.

I'm with Scott on this one.

Hood River Valley High School, faced with a similar situation 5 years ago, decided to go with a co-principalship for one year only as a test run--that was 5 years ago and it is still going strong. It works great. Both leaders divide and conquer by taking on the particular tasks most suited to their skill set.

This is a volunteer organization. There may be room for more qualified and dedicated leaders who bring in the skills and desire to get work done throughout the year.

Scott you just made the million dollar question.

This situation is the very reason for why most all organizations, non-profit or not, focus their first priority on establishing a responsible and committed Board of Directors/Trustees. The Board of Directors establishes their goals and priorities, then they elect officers from the Board of Directors that they feel will best fit the agenda and goals of being officers representing the decisions of the Board of Directors (who in turn should be making decisions based on the influence and interest of the organizations membership).

This is why elections should be based on single level objectives. First a Board of Directors, then officers and representatives (which in course could actually be selected/voted in by the Board of Directors).

It's also imperative to also have a very clear description of the responsibilities and guidelines that are expected of a person on a Board of Directors or as an office representing the Board of Directors and Membership.

Thanks for bringing this up Scott. Very, very good question.

Pepi

Nice point Endoshread. In fact as Pepi said once these elections are over the new administration should adopt a set of operating procedures. Every non-profit needs to have these on record and to date the CGKA has none. I would suggest that instead of electing individual officers, the members elect a board of directors. The board of directors can then elect which one of them wants to be president, VP, etc. This would obviate the problem Endoshred brought up. I was going to suggest this for this year's elections, but the process was too far along and the ballots had already been sent out.

See you all tonight Very Happy

Sorry Garret you are in-correct. CGKA has by-laws and we will have them at the meeting tonight. I tried to attach them here, but this system says it does not allow doc formats, sorry.

here is a link to our bylaws.
http://www.columbiagorgekiteboardingassociation.org/cgka_bylaws.doc

i also have copies of our articles of incorporation, setup the new po box, transferred the bank account from shay, and made sure we are current on our registration for the 501 c 3 nonprofit corp status with the state. It took me a little while to get all the ducks in a row, but i made it happen.

thanks for the correction pepi.

I'm sure there will be an official CGKA minutes posting but on the elections here's what I remember

President
Jim Grady

Vice President
Cory Roeseler

BOD
Nicole Doolittle
Tonia Farman
Pepi Gerald
Garret Zallen

Secretary
Adam Monaghan

Treasurer
Henry Rico

It was motioned and unanimously voted that whoever was runner up in the president race should still get a BOD spot, so that's why we got 4 instead of 3.

There is going to be a BOD meeting in early April and then another member meeting / BBQ early June. The BOD is going to sort out the bylaws and the BOD size at the April meeting.

Congrats to the newly elected officials! I think its great so many people are interested in participating in the CGKA. Its really maturing as an organization.

Just confirming that this is indeed the outcome of the election. I am sending the official count to the CGKA board today so they can include in their meeting minutes.

As Phil stated, prior to annoucing the results, a motion was made to expand the board of directors by 1 member to include the second place president candidate. This was unanimously approved. Then election results were announced.

Congratulations to all who have stepped up to support the CGKA this year.
Jim G, I meant to come introduce myself to you, but for some reason or another I didn't get the opportunity. You're doing a good job in the communication front (re:lyle open or closed).
The only thing I would want to maybe see different in the future is the following:
if CGKA uses nwkite as a communication tool and if there is a communication from the CGKA, that it should be presented from an official CGKA alias.
This might allow some users, who may be uninformed of who "shred jim" is and understand that this might be offical information from the CGKA. it might make it easier for someone new to this site to do a search on CGKA to find out more official information on access issues or concerns. my .02.

Good job to you and the newly elected BOD.
Let us members know how we can help you in the future. We all benefit from the CGKA's actions.

jim
