I have been "Lurking" on these forums awhile, often amused by diversity of personalities, yet, always feeling the goodwill/affection of members toward one another.

The way everyone comes together for clean-up efforts, sharing gear, rides, advice, working toward safety for all is unmatched in any other sport.

As a family, a very close knit, wacky Laughing, loving, caring, family, emotions over the upcoming elections are obviously overwhelming.

If I may, as someone who has yet to be thisclose to the goingson, the informal voting process seems peevish. Perhaps establishing a nonpartisan party to collect and count ballots, in addition, a forum where candidates could issue their intents/directives (As many are representing significant views of CGKA future), would offer those casting ballots the betterment of being informed and the peace that their choices will bring on, continued positive contributions by everyone.

Kiteboarding is still in infancy, the impression and judgment of others with whom waters and wind must be shared surely would be of respect when provided with how we regard one another well.

You have to love the anonymous, one post lurkers.

Is there some huge amount of power, wealth, and fame associated with running the CGKA that the rest of us don't know about? Is someone threatening to grab the reigns and suddenly work to close all the beaches to kiteboarding. (Hein isn't running for Pres is he?)

Independent vote counters, postponed elections, impromptu declarations of praise for particular candidates. Whats next, armed guards at the meetings?

Don't get me wrong, I am excited to see that the CGKA is generating buzz and the group has finally garnered some attention, respect of local officials, it just seems like people keep making closed lip accusations of dirty laundry or dirty tricks or whatever.

What's the deal?

Drive By Posters are the worst Wink

I was prompted to reply because of the tone of threads recently submitted. More specifically, due to seemingly, "closed lip accusations of dirty laundry... dirty tricks" and whether these are phantom or just rumors and for whatever reason they are floating it is a shame.

The elections have been pushed back since a year ago when there was first calls for them. Sure the process might not be perfect, but it'd be good to go through it.

"The elections have been pushed back since a year ago when there was first calls for them. Sure the process might not be perfect, but it'd be good to go through it."

Why has a year expired before an election was agendaed? Since members have wanted a course for expressing their opinion, seeminly by voting for offcial representation, who/what/why held up the process?

PDXmonkeyboy, posted on another thread, exactly as I submited this one earlier, that there are points to be discussed and canidates who have yet to introduce themselves/make statements so members can consider where to place their trust.

I am not advocating experimenting with the "Process", to be annoying, delay or interfer with finally getting a vote. It is quite apparent, by the lack of subtlety on the board, sending out ballots, before there is some clarity distinguishing the issues of who will be receiving & counting them, what the agenda of those running for office are, will have consequences. No matter what the outcome, in the least there will be ongoing bashing of reputations and gossip....unless concerns are addressed. It will totally SUCK heading out to the Gorge this summer if there is unresolved disputes.

Since a year has already lapsed, would a couple extra weeks really be a hardship to organize a fair decision making process?

We must all remember that the people who are volunteering their time to the CGKA are just that volunteers. Lets get behind the process and be supportive not distructive. Whoever gets in office.....

BlowMe -

why do you care all of a sudden who held up the process? i am partly responsible because i was tasked with getting the elections going last fall but then my dad (who many people met at the first sandbar cleanup, and was an integral help in getting that first cleanup done) fell ill with cancer. frankly, i dont really like to talk about. but i guess "why" the elections got held up is more important than me keeping my personal life private.

then a bunch of people went off the baja in december for vacation and when we got back we decided to host the elections March 8th.

the other reason is, nobody else wanted to take the reins and do it.

so i have a question for you. are you registered with the CGKA? if so why dont you come forward and let us know who you are? instead of being anonymous internet lurker. Being able to put a name to the posts make them have a whole lot more meaning. just FYI- i think you are the only person who has asked why did these elections get held up. nobody else has complained, we are all volunteers, we get no compensation other than our friends and collegues gratitude that someone is doing something to unify the kiting community.

i ask you why do you care now all of a sudden?

actually pkh, it hasn't been a year, i was appointed as communications director last may, we decided to have elections last fall around sept which is when my dad fell ill.

sorry everybody else for the rant. the view expressed here is my own.

We cant really push the election back if we want to have events this summer. I know that you have to reserve the Event Site right away.

Come to the meeting this weekend and you can meet everyone or just put names to faces.

I am very sorry to learn of your fathers illness with Cancer. I sincerley send well wishes for health and happiness his way.

I did not know elections were stalled for a year (However long), but my reply was if the whys were not emergent, then holding off another two weeks to sort through the stacking confusions wouldn't be unreasonable.

I don't know how not to be ~anonymous~ to you since we have never met. I am facinated by your sport and until I can resolve some financial
obligations there is noway I can be more then a dreamer. Someday I want to learn. I hope when I do there will be a place for me.

We had the first/last election back in 2006, here are the minutes:

http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-1710.html

If its 1 year term limits then I'd assume there should be an election every year. Which is great that we are having one.

I think after this year too we might want to adopt the CGWA way of electing which is to elect board members and then have them elect positions internally.

Anyway I know it takes awhile to put this stuff together, and regardless of everything, I am very grateful to Jim, Adam, Cory, Shay, and the other members of the CGKA who put their time in and did a lot of work over the last few years. Also big thanks to Pepi for putting together a charter which I hope we'll be able to talk about on Saturday.

And new anonymous users... if you can't stand behind your words you shouldn't post.

I think that these posts are bringing up some points that probably need to be discussed at this Saturday's meeting.

This is kind of a fresh new start for the CGKA and we are likely going to have some different ideas for what we each think is in the best interest of our local kiting community.
I hope that this meeting will be run with an open frame of mind to allow people the opportunity to provide suggestions and feedback without being blasted for thinking differently or having their comments misconstrued as an attack against the CGKA or the actions of it's current representatives.

I think that we can all agree that we all want what is best for the protection and enhancement of the sport of kiteboarding in both Hood River and the greater Columbia Gorge Area.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
Pepi

I think the commander/leader/ el presidente should be called the Governer.

Thanks for all the involvement to preserve the way of life we all like to lead when enjoying the gorge recreational areas.
