The only bummer is that it doesn't qualify as a world record run since it was only on his GPS and not over a long enough course distance.
He's been taking some flak internationally for proclaiming himself the new world speed record holder.

I think that this month he and a bunch of the other speedkiters are over in Namibia SA at the International Speedsailing event. I'm sure that they'll clock in some record times.

GPS or not, the 50 knot barrier over 500m is all but broken. Or at least you can say kiters are closer than anyone else to claiming the victory. Compare:

I often wonder how fast I am going when I really get cranking. 50 knots though, man that is FLYING!!
