Careful in the backcountry. Set off a big slide above Mirror Lake on some fairly mellow slopes near skibowl - went all the way down 2' to a crust layer. the telemetry was reading 18" new at skibowl but more like 30" above Mirror. Breaking trail was retarded - the slide was some scary shit - also half a dozen gumbies rubber side up on the road - looked like most made it.

Yea man, 5 days of clear cold nights has created a pretty nasty layer of surface hoar. Nothing bonds to that type of surface...

This is the book I'm reading, and I'd recommend it for anyone wanting to go into the back country who hasn't learned about avalanches yet or can't afford a course.
