So the family and I went out to smith and bybee lakes the other day to walk around and look at birds. After about the 20th time of me uttering "I wonder if you could kite here" My wife told me "to get on your little forum and see if anyone has".

So here I am. The lake is pretty damn big these days and I know there are several places you could launch from. Curious to know if anyone has tried it.

I went sight fly fishing for Carp (fastest fresh water fish, for sport not to eat) at Smith and Bybee Lakes a couple of years ago. The lakes are loaded with fallen trees (i.e. snags). I have noticed that during the winter you cant see the snags under the water surface but during the summer the snags are every where.

Besides where would you launch from?

You can launch from several emergent wetlands along the edge of the lakes if you just follow the trail. I figured there would be a bunch of snags in there. That would pretty much put the kybosh on kiting there for me. Bad things can happen when you run into snags. I witnessed a guy puncture his lung while mt. biking on the north shore in B.C. Gasping for air and a gurgeling sound coming from a big hole in his chest.. no thanks.

I want to hear more about the carp - I hear from Mark that the Sauvies lakes have them - do they get you into the backing? Seen some monsters in the shallows below bonneville - site fishing is super fun.

The best place around here for Carp is the little pond/lake right next to the Roster Rock turn off. Its waist deep in the summer, cast out a Red San Juan Worm towards a school, let is settle to the bottom, the slowly twitch it to still up some mud.

I agree, carp are hella fun to catch...They bite on anything...but stinky old worms will do the trick most times...And those fu** can grow pretty big...

Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures. People were basically standing there with their moouths open trying to figure out how to get him off the mountain. Two days later I saw some cross country boob face plant at whistler and put his front teeth through his lip and scrap a huge flap of skin off his nose with his wire frame sunglasses. He was face down in the mud and when we turned him over it was like a freakin horror show. He got a heli ride back to Vancouver.

It's not all grim and gore though, I miss riding the trails in BC so much but its hard to drive there every weekend and there is NOTHING that even comes close to the riding up there. Post canyon has some cool stuff but nothing on the scale of the NS. Check out this picture of a trail built last year in Nelson.

FUCKING AWESOME
