two years ago, first time in La Ventana went out fishing first thing on the first morning - came across a school of about a hundred of those guys jumping - spectacular

day two got up - went for a walk down the beach - came across 100 filleted carcasses

Actually, if you go to the Big Islanf, doing a manta ray dive is as good as obligatory. The biggest one (Bertha) is 16 feet wide, and they come within inches of you as you sit on the seafloor in the dark. They are really some of the most graceful creatures I have ever seen.

Here is some footagte a friend of mine took:

(don't blame me for his choice of music Smile )

The big island manta ray night dive is one of the coolest things I've ever done. You turn your light off, and they run into you. The night I did it, there were 14 rays, and big bertha was there Laughing You can hold your light out and see the plankton dancing off the light, and the rays will keep looping around you taking the plankton off the "plate" you have provided for them..too cool.

If you go to the Big Island, you have to do this dive! There were a few snorkelers on our boat, and they said it was awesome from the surface also... so dive cert is not necessary.
