Tami and I just got back from Cozumel.
Wind was light for the entire 2 weeks.
But back at home in Astoria the wind hit 130 on my wind gauge.

4 acres of old growth fir was LEVELED in our back yard. Crazy...and depressing....to see an entire forest disappear.

Wish we would have been here to watch it.

The wind was bizzare, like something out of twister. My power went out last sunday at 1230 and just got reconnected a few hours ago (6 1/2 days without). Its funny how long it takes to stop flicking the light switch when you walk into a room.

There was a meterological tower on langlois mountain at about 1000' elevation (taking data for wind power development) that had sustained winds of 90 mph for over 10 hours and a gust within that time period of 144 mph. The pics are of a barn across from my house. It had been 60'x60' with 40' peak. It also blew the one in the background off its foundation and if you look close, you can see a semi trailer laying on its side to the left of the excavator we were using to extract my tractor. My front yard looks like something out of hurricane katrina. Fortunately we didnt get the crazy rain with it... the whole storm only netted 7.5 inches over 2.5 days, which is pretty normal for around here.

Everyone survived, just have a little clean up to do. Apparently the insurance adjusters are fairly busy too as they havent appeared yet.

yeah...it's way worse than you can imagine looking at it from the safety of Portland.

Feds just came out and flew over the forest behind our house.
It is seriously leveled like Mt St. Helens just blew.
Miles of trees down and splintered....cut in half or laying dead. Huge roots uprooted everywhere.

We drove around today and it is devastating. Surf Pines, the community in Gearhart, basically lost about 1000 to 2000 trees.....stump pines now.

And buildings are damaged everywhere.
We still don't have cable so I am not sure what is on tv....but it is definitely pretty horrific....and definitely the storm of the century over here.
