Congrats to Tony Bolstad for winning in the November 26th election as a Port of Skamania Commissioner. The Port oversees the Stevenson launch as well as many other properties. Shannon was the campaign manager who completed lots of paperwork (on time) to get Tony on the ballot. Thanks to everyone who voted for him (if you could).

I'll have to bring that idea up with my campaign manager if I ever do this again. (Shan! take notes)

I didn't actually campaign very hard - just a statement in the voters pamphlet and an article in the Pioneer. I was asked to run when Roger Whitaker (a local kiteboarder) had to resign his post when he moved out of the district he was representing. At one point there were two kiteboarders on the 3 person board (Roger and and Dave Prosser). Beginning next year I will be the only kiteboarder on the commission. This is my first experience with public office but it seemed like the right time in my life to give something back to the community so we'll see how it goes.

Washington Port's are a pretty unique government agency in that they are chartered to promote economic growth, can buy, sell, and develop land, partner with public and private entities to operate facilities, construct and maintain multimodal transportation infrastructure, improve and operate public parks and recreational facilities, promote tourism; and new for 2008, they can operate tourism facilities. In short, they make money and operate like a business in many ways.

I have contacted the CGKA and invited them to get on the Port agenda in January or February to introduce themselves and to discuss ideas for the launch area.

I want to keep this account (tonyb) for personal use and not mix things up with my official Port duties. If someone wants to contact me about port business you can send an e-mail to: tony@portofskamania.org or contact me via the Port office: 509.427.5484. I'll think about creating a Commissioner account for nwkite....

For those of you who were able to vote for me (and did!) Thank You! I'll try not to mess things up.

Tony

ps: see what happens when Carol has free time? She's in Bakersfield today and got up WAY to early! Thanks honey. Wink

Congratulations Tony! Excellent to continue good kite representation in the Port of Skamania. Too bad the wind did not work out better when I saw you, Carol and Becca in South Padre. Nice post on St. Lucia btw.

We (CGKA) got your email and we most definitely will attend one of the meetings in Jan or Feb to introduce ourselves and to continue to work towards our goal (to increase and improve kiteboarding access in the Columbia River Gorge). I will contact you through the email you posted from here forward, but wanted the kiting community to know that we are on it, and look forward to furthering our relationship with the Port of Skamania !
