I go with Temira's 120 rule.
air temp + water temp + wind speed > 120.
So if it's a hundred degrees combined temp (i.e., colder 'n hell), it's gotta be pretty damn decent conditions for me to sail.
Of course, this breaks down the higher the wind gets - i wouldn't sail if it was 30, 30 and 60! OK, I might try and windsurf in it. But it would be a really bad idea.
Note: all comments to be taken with a grain of salt - despite being from Florida, I've been known to ride at the Oregon coast in a 3/2 shorty like it's a cool day in the DR. |
