i thought this years contest had happened but here's a copy of an email i just received(i double-checked the site and status is at yellow). whatever, i'd just like to see it ridden. make peace

After a very stormy October, we finally had a few weeks of fall arrive. And now we have a potential swell that could be contestable, forecast for early next week. We have changed the status to yellow, and now all eyes are on the forecast. Current predictions are calling for a 20’ plus swell to arrive on Tuesday of next week. If the forecast holds and the winds cooperate, John could call the contest by the end of the weekend. Tuesday is still too far away to really know what is going to happen, and wind forecasts are not accurate this far out, so stay tuned for info. I will send out another update Saturday to let everyone know what’s going on.

As always, the web page is the best source of accurate up to date information – www.nelscottreef.org

Hope to see everyone at the contest this year!

5 FT. W SWELL 19 FT.

Doesn't sound too good! And anybody thinking this would be good for kiting the reef, hasn't seen what mulching 20-foot swell and gale force southerlies are like.

Sounds like this might be the left overs from Tahiti. Weird to think that the swell goes that far.

Wrong - Swell from Gulf of Alaska low pressure systems, building strength throughout the weekend into next week. Goodbye sunny weather, hello rain and snow in the mountains!

will the contest itself blow? there were some really good surfers there last time, and that's what i'm down for seeing. otherwise, i have to wait for the eddie or peahi and jump on the plane. if the guy is exploiting the reef, his karma will reflect it - lame.

Surf contest put back on hold. Sounds like there is wind for those who want to charge it!

Well, the forecast crapped out on us again. The swell that was forecast to start on Tuesday looks smaller than originally hoped for, although still has some size to it. The problem is the wind. The offshores that we had hoped for on Tuesday are now forecast for Wednesday. Tuesday looks too windy with gusts to 25 knots forecast. So John has decided to go back to red status, as there really isn’t anything on the immediate horizon that looks contestable. We are not even 1/2 way through the holding period, so there is still plenty of opportunity ahead of us. The first 2 years were held on the same weekend in December. Stay tuned for the next opportunity.
