Hey Forrest, what do you think about corralling all these comments and setting up a meeting in HR to talk about things?

I only kite around the sand bar 6-7 times a week in season, and I admit, I didn't see the sliders being used that much. I did see the ambulance down there helping Dave back to the mainland though.

IMHO, the sliders are bordering on eyesores, especially as the novelty wears off and they get used less and less. Please do not add advertising space to them, it could start a spiraling out of control reaction ending in violence towards the slider and a ban from the port (think Monkey Wrench Gang). Aesthetics matter to keep everyone on board and complaints low. I'm not going to use the slider, but as long as y'all keep them low pro, I see little reason to get peoples hackles up. If they start looking like flamboyant jungle gyms on steroids, the outcry might get a little louder.

Alright well i was gonna write this long thing all pissed but Jackal, i decided to make it short. First of all since your down there SO often, who are you? I would assume i know you if you are down there that much, unless you are a kook, which im assuming you are.

What does daves injury have to do with this thread? Have you even spoken with him about what happened? Were you there? Did you even know what he did? The sliders didnt cause his pain, he did, and he would tell you himself.

What time do you go to the sandbar? There is absolutely no way that if you were down there that much you didnt see the sliders getting used. In fact I would say they get used 1-2 times per week.

Oh yeah and im at the sandbar 7 days a week in season, so please if you ever have a problem with the sliders, come talk to me about it.

Bitching on a forum does nothing.

Last year was ambitious. Unfortunately we have an ever changing water and sand level and this makes things way more difficult than if we were trying to do this in SPI for example. We've learned a few things.

We're very sensitive to our environment and wouldn't do anything to hurt or devalue it. We won't put eye sores out there and we won't be accepting sponsors.

We're just a bunch of like minded people that want to hit sliders behind our kites. If you're down to try something new, I'm down to show you the way. If you're not into it, please don't try and stop us and we won't stop you. I only request that you open your mind to the possibilities, even if that's just spectating while others ride.

Well put Forrest!

I was stoked to ride the last slider and did so on a few different days. It didn't last all year but like Forrest said you live and you learn. I'm real happy about the work that was put into it, I'd say for the $50 I tossed in I got a deal!

As for eye-sore... last year some folks had ideas for Camo'd sliders, not a bad idea I think. Just get together a paint party and it'd probably get done in no time. Maybe just match the sand color...

Forest,
The design I was thinking would have a base and the actually slider part. The base would be anchored in the sand and the slider part would be attached with a steel tube at each end with a series of holes and a pin so that the height could be changed quickly and easily. (think telescoping pole kind of deal) It would be really cool to make each tube point pivot so the angle of the slider could be changed.

Just a thought.

Also, I think we should paint NWKITE.Com on it in flourescent orange paint. Wink

20x8 fun box with enclosed bottom for flotation.

3/8 marine ply covered with UHMW would be the ticket.
I wonder if spray on bed liner coated with teflon lube
would slide.

slightly different:

The larger obstacles really need to float. The varying water level makes them to hard to manage. And we all know how the water changes levels as the day proceeds.

I was thinking this would work for a small obstacle though. I think having a small kicker (24" - 36" tall) that you could just do simple stuff off of would be killer fun, specially on a skim board or wake skate. Anyone for learning flat 360s? Smile

Yeah a little kicker would be fun, like that picnic table that was out there early season (probably a little bigger though.) The big kicker is just too gnarly for me. Very Happy

My little 3' kicker is down in SPI.
It was sitting at the north flats last
time I saw it.

It needs some paint and a new deck
or some pipe put on it. Feel free
to spruce it up and use it. Just take
it out when you're done.

Topher hittin it:

if your going to have it float, then perhaps I should keep my 55 gallon barrel that is currently at the curb?
