Thats a speed glider though, not a kite. |

I've got three speed gliders. A 14M Gin Nano, and a 12M and 15M SKiM. So far I've only used them at the coast when it was nukin too bad to fly any of my regular paragliders.
They are amazingly easy to fly. I've taught people how to ground handle well enough to launch and then had them flying off the Dune at Cape Kiwanda in about 20 minutes. As long as you have someone who understands and will monitor conditions for you it's really pretty safe. _________________ Lets FLY |

| I have seen a newbie in the mountains auger in pretty hard several times. I don't know that I would call it safe when you are going downn a hill dropping away fast. peoples natural tendency is to pull the brake when trouble occurs , which does'nt bring the desired outcome. a foot of the sand maybe safe , going down the mountain at 40 probably not safe w/o a clue. |

| Yeah-- That shit looked painful. Doesn't seem like snowboards work for the glider. |

Exactly. It depends on where, what and how you are flying. I wouldn't ever throw a newbie off the eiger. The guys in the vid are flying pretty much hands up and at max speed. And it looks like they are flying 8-10M wings. On a treeless snow field with a reasonable slope its really pretty safe.
And pulling brake on speed gliders actually does bring on a desired effect. It converts speed to lift and gets you away from the terrain. Pulling too much brake on a paraglider leads to stalls and/or oscillations. But things are a little different on a speed glider (depending on your wing loading). I've tried to stall my 14M Gin Nano and I can't, it's just loaded too heavily I guess. _________________ Lets FLY |
