Heading to La Ventana. My flight lands in Cabo San Lucas, what's the options for transportation to La Ventana? Heard there was a bus to La Paz, has anyone been on it?

Thanks...

Baja buses are modern and nice but the drivers are nuts. (you can get Valium over the counter if it helps) They are known as the Eagle, La Aguila.. Theyll probably take you to San Jose del Cabo to catch one for La Paz and then another for el Sargento ("Sarhento" which is mexican for La Ventana)
good luck.. car rental would be easier... or hire a ride..

I have done the bus thing. It is kind of fun mixing with the locals.
Walk from the SJDC airport towards the highway. You will see a few locals along the way, just follow them. Get off at the LaPaz bus station...
Catch the El Sergento bus into LV or have a friend pick you up in LaPaz.

Where are you staying? Sometimes there are several arrivals at the same time and the shuttle can be split amongst you. Also you can call Merie at Baja Joe's, she will try to hook you up with other folks who need a ride.

Car rentals are not a boad way to go either. I rented there last season. Jjust get a new credit card that provides renta car insurance....

A car is nice if there is no wind to travel around. Also, you can drive to Los Barriles or across to the west side to surf.

Last time I got a car for $13/day. ~D

I’ll have to check with my travel agent (wife). She found the deal on hotwire or someplace like that….

you just have to keep on checking the rental car prices, just like the airlines. I got a similar deal last February. I didn't take it when I first saw the offer ($216 for 14-15 days) and waited another week before it populated again!

i imagine those super cheap car rentals are extra for the insurance...

mexican car insurance is a whole different thread. bottom line - it's not on your credit card, and you're bumming if you get a fender bender in MX without it.

Yep, you are correct. No insurance at that price. Make sure you’re covered or your trip may be extended indefinitely… Evil or Very Mad

It all depends on which credit card you have. I called the customer service number on the back of my card before going down there last year. They told me that I was totally covered in Mexico or any other country for that matter.
It is real important to make sure that your specific credit card plan has coverage. For example, not all Alaska Airline Visas have rental car coverage in foreign countrys. Some do and some don't....
They even gave me a toll free number to call while in Mexico if I encountered any problems.
Just make sure to cover all the bases and you will be fine.

I am pretty sure that while your CC may cover damage to your rental car, it's injury to another persons property, or person that will land you in jail if you do not have Mexican insurance.

Keep in mind that Mexican law is derivative of the "Napoleonic Code", where one is "Guilty until proven Innocent"... hard for US citizens to understand. What it can translate into is that everyone involved gets taken to jail, and stays there until they prove they have insurance to cover the damages. This is why so many people involved in accidents, in Mexico, leave the scene.

In the 15 years, I traveled in Mexico, I always had not only Mexican Auto Liability and Property coverage, but also "Travelers Insurance", whereby, you are guaranteed that a lawyer will come to your aid.

The time to find out all this is not in the middle of the night, down at "El Centro".

I always liked the Vagabundos Del Mar club insurance.

And it’s not just other vehicles you have to watch out for. I’ve heard that if you kill someone’s Baja cow you are responsible for buying them a new one…

Watch out for these guys, especially at night!!

if you have a RV with a toilet
ADA VIS is the way to go
They have Mexican and U.S. coverage
and it's dirt cheap
it's our full time insurance.

A guy told me that if you land in jail you will be happy to spend thousands just to get a cell
and thousands more to get a lock for your cell
etc,,,
It also makes all Mexicans the best drivers I have ever encountered
In all the time I have spent in Mx. we only saw one 2 car accident.

plenty over the bank

I would be careful about relying on that. That doesn't sound consistent with everything I've heard on the subject.

Perhaps ask them for a referral from a satisfied customer? (Running into a ditch or a cow doesn't count, you'd want to hear from someone who banged into another car and avoided jail time).
