He gets mad props for boosting big.

There's also style points riders can get for throwing down technical moves. I've never seen him ride so can't comment on that, but I'm sure he rips.

At the same time riding a 15ft vertical wave over a reef requires different skills than boosting big, as does throwing kiteloop handlepasses 30ft in the air.

I agree there should be more exposure to local talent and normal guys just ripping, but that's up to us. That's why there are occasional photo and video contests.

Anyway, not sure why this is getting on your nerves so much since it's the same for any sport and we're all used to it by now...

Aren't we all doing it for the stoke anyway? Who gives a damn whether someone acknowledges your moves or not. I'm sure the smile on Mel's face says it all when he lands those airs.

Hehe, if you angle a shot right you can make people look like they're jumping over the MOON (and I'm not talking about Amery's). Nice shots though.

your right, it's all in the angle and perspective, i say use it to your advantage

regardless though, when they're that high above the tracks at the unnamed spot, thats pushin the huge envelope

Yeah for sure dude, watch out.

Remember to fly your kite on the way down so you dont fall from those heights.

My son, Jeff, spent last summer in da Gorge kiting with Mel and the gang at the rockpile. He learned to go BIG from the boys. In fact they started calling him "little Mel". Quite a compliment considering from whom it came.
