Allright guys,

My wife and I ski about 85 ish days a year and her right knee is starting to wear out and get weak. I know that its time for a brace. My wife is aprox 135 ish agressive learning skier (not a expert) but still gets out there and skis off the sleds with us. So the question is:

What knee braces should I look at and does anyone have a recomedation to get fitted for one. Were self employed and have HUGE deductibles so I was thinking of just fitting here for one.

We've looke at the asterisk brand, but I really need some help with this one.

Thanks friends.

sg Very Happy

It truly depends on which part of the knee there is an issue with. You can go with the simplist ace like bandage "brace" all the way to the dials and rods type of brace.

Shields braces are good braces and pricey and they have ones specific to different issues with the knee. Same with Don Joy. Best to pony up the dough for an orthopedic surgeon to take a look at the knee(s) and give you the appopriate diagnosis and brace then to try to fit one, as you don't know what the issue is right? I know it's a bit of money now, but in the long run it could save a lot of pain and aggravation which may cause more damage then to just get help now.

I've had my fair share of knee braces and taping, it's no joke.

Okay...first...full disclosure.

I noticed a mention of our DonJoy Knee Braces on your forum. I'm the owner of BetterBraces.com the retail site for DonJoy braces. I've particpated in forums on Kiteboarding.com and found I was able to help quite a few people answer questions pertaining to Knee Bracing. I also was really surprised on how many knee injuries there are in Kiteboarding.

I'm here to answer questions not to sell you anything.

With regards to knee braces designed specifically for women I would suggest looking into the the DonJoy Female Fource. It's an off-the-shelf ACL brace that doesn't need to be custom fit and therefore less expensive. It's designed for the shape of women's leg angle and will well in the water.

The other option that a lot of the other Kiteboarders seemed interested in was the DonJoy Playmaker Knee Brace. It's really a great brace. Although it's softer because it's made from lighter materials, but will also work well in the water.

If you have any further questions on knee braces for kiteboarding or waterskiing please let me know.
