so I was thinking of heading down there this weekend. I am just a beginner and able to just barely hold my own up wind. Should I stay away from the gorge or is it beginner friendly? What area would you recommend. I would head for Hood River so the wife has something to do as well. Anything in that vacinity would be great.
Thanks for the advice

The sand bar in Hood River is O.K. for learning, but be aware of the many hazzards and ask about local knowledge. Please stay out of the 'kiddie pool' where people are throwing trix - usually the one down wind. Have fun - Chris
P.S. There are a number of schools in HR that will jet ski assist a downwinder - that would be a great idea if your not staying up-wind well - and you can stay away from the crowds. |

Iam still working with just kite next session ill practice upwind board drags maybe someday ill actually get on board.
Seems like if your on board and staying upwind there are a lot of spots. Hood River sandspit shouldn't be a problem at all. Busy weekends and holidays make me nervous though. |

its funny that everyone says the spit is a good place to learn as it is a complete zoo during the weekends. Stevenson has its own set of challenges, namely the launch, where IS the best spot for beginers?
It would have to be sauvie's or perhaps rooster on the east wind. Lots of beach and lots of space. Spend the cash and get the jet ski deal at the spit. You'll get out of everyones way and you will learn faster.

| if you can get a launch and think you can handle it, downwinding from the hook is pretty good. |
