				| I'd like to use one for wind protection of wetsuit, but does a big bulge of water collect above waist harness every time you fall in?
 Thx,
 Eric

				| I've never had this issue, although I've always used a board shorts harness. Also, I run a impact vest which probably keeps water from filling in as well.
This year I tried the Exoskin top from ProMotion, and I have to say I love it. It's four way stretch so you don't have to go as loose as some other tops. No top like this makes you any warmer in the water, but they sure do make you warmer in the wind.

				| The Promotion Exoskin top is a nice way to extend the range of my 5 mm suit during what we call “cold” conditions on the OR coast. It’s probably not enough for freezing E winds in the Gorge though. Mine is too short to tuck inside my harness, so no worries about it balooning full of water, and I never have had problems with it rolling up & bunching under my armpits either. I really like mine for kiting during the shoulder seasons. | |

				| I wear a light wind breaker from Patagonia that is relatively fitted. This has worked great to reduce wind chill.
I would just use what you have. no need to buy another jacket.

				| Hi Eric!
Not exactly what you're asking about (wind shedding).
But we use those Neoprene pullover hoodies.
They have cutouts for harness hooks, that work ok with a rope slider.
We use them in <50deg air over our wetsuits.
They aren't "smooth skin"/watershedding, but really only seem cool when standing on shore in the breeze after the session. I.E. while riding, don't really feel a chill. And even when standing around wet in a breeze, they hold a layer of warm air in, compared with when you take it off. Mandie says it's a "game changer"
They don't get much water in when crashing, and what does get in, drains out.
 Enjoy the winter!
 Malcolm

				| I've tried a few of the above suggestions but in the end going with a different product.
 Level Six paddling jacked:
Excellent wind breaking but the arms fill with water every time they submerge. Also lacks any kind of stretch.

 ProMotion ExoSkin:
Very good wind break and adds a lot of warmth but the fleece layer soaks up about 10 lbs of water every time you submerge making you feel like a stone. They offer a product called Exo Lite that might be better but I haven't tried it.

What I ended up switching to was the NP Surf Edge wind skin. Honestly these things are amazing and I don't understand why everyone doesn't use them.

They do not provide the same level of wind breaking as the above two options, but they are pretty close and don't suffer any of the drawbacks.

Order 1-2 sizes up though, as the sizing is kinda crazy. I'm a size medium but wear a XL over my wetsuit and a L without a wetsuit.

I went through my first one in about 7 sessions. NP was great about replacing, which I appreciated. However, same result, at which point I gave up on them

				| My first NP Edge lasted about three winters. Now I am on my second and going a second season. I hope they don't discontinue them. | |

Question: how did you take it off?

I've seen people that reach up and pull from the material on the upper back that it wrecks it pretty fast.

Personally I hold the bottom and fully reverse it to get it off and get at least 2 years out of them, about 35 sessions a year for me and a few extra non-kite sessions wearing them wake surfing or ocean surfing.

This post inspired me to test my men's XL Longsleeve EXO Skin when I washed it for the season. I've been using it for years and never felt weighed down by it. Maybe I don't fall in enough.

The top itself (dry) weighs right about 1lb. After fully soaking it in the bathtub it was quite a bit heavier and dripped a lot as it was removed from the tub. After one minute of dripping, it felt a lot lighter and the dripping had slowed considerably. At this point I weighed the top again - right around 3.5 lbs - then let it drip for an additional minute and weighed it a third time. After two minutes out of the water the top was still holding about 2 lbs of water and total weight was right around 3 lbs.
After an additional 5 minutes on the hanger, the top half was starting to feel drier, but the lower half was still damp and dripping a bit. The total weight was down to just below 2.5 lbs, so I would guess this would be pretty typical for normal use when you are up and riding with occasional dunks.
