What kind of elastic do you think they used? I am going to build one of these for no wind days down at the sandbar or Lyle. Looks so fun!

I think just something like this would work

http://www.doityourself.com/invt/u138035

You could also double or triple up the cord to give it a bit more "power"

a winch would be better:

set one up in the spit parking lot
and use the current to feed it out

fire it up and ride back.

Hein on the right track

"The Winch can pull a rider at up to 30 mph and will retail for around $850"

Yea, but that's the same shit as buying a boat. It's not convienent, uses gas, and costs a fortune. I want energy as free as wind.

I'm sure that winch thing can get you up to speed to hit a slider though.

I don't follow... If you're talking about a spring loaded winch that you wind up, sounds like a pretty good way to get your fingers chopped off.

I'd go for surgical tubing (seems like it'd take a decent length of it, no matter the material). Find some pretty beefy shit, but nothing too big that you can't pull it back. Put a kite bar on one end with a chicken loop, and wear your harness so it's easier to stretch down the beach!

more along the lines of what to do with the slider
if the man is not going to let it get wet. Someone
got a 1500 ft pond?

sorry to be vague

what's wrong with burning a little GAS?

....

Surgical tubing would work. 50 feet cost about $50 and the stuff stretches to 7 times its length.

I've used it in the past for speed workouts for runners. All you would need is an anchor point.

Nothing wrong with burning gas. I just like stuff that's fun that doesn't cost any money beyond just buying the initial gear and getting to the location.

If we had a pond, we could mount that winch system in about 10 feet up so it pulls from the right place!

We'll get the slider in the water. No worries here.

according to mythbusters, the surgical tubing has the best elasticity/size ratio.... Thumb's Up

I hate to be the safety guy here, but I would recommend 1/2 the suspected diameter and doubling it up. That way, if / when the tube/cord breaks, you will not get a free vasectomy from the recoil line. I have used a similar idea in rivers attaching bungee cords to the end of a ski rope and securing the other end to a bridge. It was fun until one of my buddies took the rope in the face.

http://www.reefscuba.com/surgical_tubing.htm

lots of different sizes.

Do you mean by double up, having 2 tied together, or have 1 smaller size inside of the other one? I imagine if you have some vasoline, and a string you could pull a second smaller size tubing inside another one. That would prevent a kick back from a break.
